When fusion goes too far...

I'm generally an advocate of fusion cuisines. Two kinds I like are the chefy ones, like when French cooking incorporates Japanese flavors, like mirin, or the diffuse panty kind, the kind I'm more likely to produce myself, where udon noodles might be prepared with a lemon amaretto sauce.

Sometimes fusion goes too far. Or perhaps it's more of the hipster view of a deep fryer as a challenge to see if handballs and chair legs are better if battered and fried.

Oshizushi deep fried and served with soy sauce on the side.

It's not bad, though fairly lacking in flavor. It holds together well. But that's a foul thing to do with fresh ingredients!
