Drip line + pop-up sprinklers -- do I really have to cap...?

I got pretty excited about the idea of replacing a pop-up sprinkler with a drip line converter head, but the Rainbird specs say you have to cap all the other sprinkler heads in the line if you do this. I can't do that because the genius who installed this system has the weirdest configuration of what heads are on the same line and I need to keep some of the spray heads. What would happen if I didn't cap the rest of the heads -- geysers and fountains? No pressure in the drip line? Plan B is to couple/uncouple the hose to a soaker; Plan C is to keep handwatering. Plan D is to hire someone to come redo the lines. Expert thoughts?
