Need help with kitchen pantry design

I'm trying to make my pantry space most efficient and useful. I've read several threads on here regarding pantry dimensions. (such as shelf should be 14 inches deep, otherwise you can't find things, etc). I like being able to see everything all at once, so I don't think roll-out shelves would be beneficial.

The pantry would be 36 inches wide maximum (can't expand further). My question is how deep should the pantry be to be most useful? (The maximum depth I can go is 28 inches). I'm thinking 20inches -24 inches)??

I have a separate broom closet for cleaning supplies, etc so I don't need that to share with the pantry. Also, I plan on having my spices in my kitchen close to the stove/oven.

Thanks!
