Do you have a dish drawer for your everyday dinnerware
Comments (9)In my last house, I kept my everyday dishes in the middle drawer of a 36" pot & pan drawer that was in the peninsula, perpendicular to the dishwasher -- standing at the dishwasher I could just pop everything into the drawer. It was wonderful - no more lifting stacks of heavy stoneware from a wall cabinet. I'll repeat it in the new house, but in the island because there's no peninsula. I used an organizer but I don't plan to use it this time. I found it easy to scrape knuckles on the posts, and when I removed them, nothing moved so I think I'll leave them out. Incidentally, the bottom drawer in that stack held paper goods. A church study group met at our house each week. People rotated bringing snacks, and I supplied napkins, cups, drinks, plates, etc. Everything was in that drawer, and I could get it out and put it away in a minute. Very handy! Comments (33)I never had any use for a toaster oven until I had no oven. I remembered the little toaster oven from my youth that made burned toast that my grandmother then scraped and buttered anyway. I haven't had a working oven in quite a while. I finally broke down and purchased a countertop oven perhaps the same size as the one Sharon is showing, maybe smaller. It wasn't a high end model, just an Emerson from Target. This Thanksgiving I did a 12 pound unstuffed turkey in it. I didn't think it was possible but it was. Since I carved it and froze the meat and almost everything for that meal I was able to do everything one item at a time. We had Thanksgiving on the sailboat where my son has been living in Long Beach since September. I find that it runs hot and I have to adjust the temperature dial down about 25 degrees. Also deep loaf pan quick breads will tend to burn on the bottom before they are baked through. So I divide the recipe into three mini loaf pans instead or use a small bundt pan. Glass also tends to lead to burned bottoms on my quick breads. We make lots of cookies, one-loaf quick bread recipes, pies and crisps and small bundt cakes. I haven't attempted yeast bread yet but I will at some point. I've baked pumpkin halves, and stuffing, and sweet potatoes. As long as the baking dish fits, I think almost anything can be baked in it. I don't use the mini cookie sheets one can purchase for toaster ovens, they are so small they are silly. Mine has a removeable bottom liner so I use that with parchment. It slides into the rack slot. Works fine....See Moredish drain -- do you have one?
Comments (15)Our dish drainer is out all the time on the counter. It's part of the kitchen landscape and it's an extremely useful tool. It folds up and can be put away--but that really only happens when we're taking pictures :) My mother's drainer is in one sink of her double sink. I find it very awkward. It's difficult to use the sink without splashing or dripping on the dishes that are supposedly drying. It's difficult to pour cooking water out of a pot when one sink is full of sudsy water and the other sink has clean dishes. I prefer the better air circulation on the counter top. I wash quite a few dishes. We're home all day long (dh and I both work from home) so the rack is constantly being used. I like to hand wash easy-to-clean cooking pots (i.e. ones used to steam veggies or cook pasta). I find it easier than loading them into a dw--plus I don't like taking up a lot of space in the dw with bulky items. We also wash all plastic, wood, cast iron and any pots that aren't all stainless steel. I prefer air drying to towel drying. Our dish drainer sits on a sloped drain board built into our stone counter....See More3rd rack silverware tray in DW--show me how you load it
Comments (5)I know this is an old thread but I came here looking for something else and thought I'd reply in case someone else could use the info. The first thing I did when getting my KUDE60 dw was remove the large silverware basket from the bottom rack. That opened an enormous area for a 9x13 pan, skillets, etc. There is a vertical corner basket where I put my cooking utensils. The top cutlery tray is where I put forks, spoons, knives, or other items that will fit. It takes awhile to learn how YOUR silverware will fit and the best placement for YOU. I love this dw! Favorite appliance ever! (I have the KUDE60)...See Moreenzaenza
