Yes you can if the substrate is prepared to support the tile choice.

Aesthetically it is you who has to enjoy the floor! large tile can alleviate grout joints and make a room feel larger, adversely in your case it may look cramped?

Our MB is minuscule, and we used large format tiles in it. They, and the rest of the bathroom, look smashing. :)

We used 12 x 24" on our small master bath floor. It looks great and makes the room seem bigger.

We used 24 x 24 in a small bath and it looks great. Also did our best to match the grout to the tile, so it is fairly seamless visually.

The only problem with larger tiles - you need a very flat floor to install them to minimize lippage between tiles. No more variance than 1/8" over 10 feet or 1/16" over 2 feet

Agree with Cabot & Rowe. Check the tiles you want to use for flatness. Cupping/bowing is often found in tiles this size. If I were going for that size tile I would want them to be dead flat, which also means you have more flexibility in the tile-laying pattern.

I can look at all the photos I want but without knowing the size of the bathrooms in the photos, it's hard to judge. Thanks Tundra, Cabot & Rowe and kudzu9 for the technical advice on the installation of the tiles. I was wondering what issues to look out for.

You can check flatness by taking a pair of tiles and placing them face to face or back to back. If there is any gapping around the edges or in the center when you look at them from the side, then they are not perfectly flat. That doesn't mean that they can't be used. It just means that they will look better if they are not laid in an overlapping pattern where you get lippage, and it is important, if they are bowed, that it is consistent from tile to tile. I did a small bathroom in 18" square tiles that were perfectly flat and I still chose to align the tiles in a standard, straight set pattern.

badgergal - that looks great! I'm going to take a look at 24x24 tiles too. Is that an absolute black countertop? That is what I currently have in my bathroom and I love it. Nothing can stain it. Just wipe it down and it looks as good as new.

kudzu9 - thanks for pointing this issue out and how to check out the tiles. I think I am leaning towards aligning the tiles in straight set pattern. I don't think overlapping brick pattern would be worth it because my bathroom is so small. I'm going to do as Tundra suggested and lay them out to see if I like the pattern.

The countertop is Hanstone Quartz's Black Coral. We lucked out in finding a remnant at the fabricators shop. It is more of a matte finish than shiny which is great in the bathroom because it doesn't really show water spots. Here is a close up of the countertop.

We always mudset anything that is rectified. Thats the only way to get 100% coverage and level + lippage free

Do you have any pics of your finished work xmkx? We have a basement bathroom of similar size 72"x63" and are considering doing a staggered layout with vinyl tiles with acrylic grout. thanks!

I forgot what size tile I used ... I think it was a 9 by 36 staggered. I love it.
