Need help choosing colors - entryway floor and stairs
Comments (6)I just looked again at the trap door space, and gave it some more thought. Here's my take: Stain treads a dark shade Match floor color to stain Paint risers white Paint trap door AND bottom stair same as floor Beware! You may need a small colorful rug under the last stair/on floor(hard to see stair at night) For the rails, etc. The most common/best,imo, look is white paint on the rails and stain on post and newel. Oh! New thought re. last stair: Stain it in a light honey and stencil a design in floor color. It will stand out( for safety) and neat effect! Hmmm, you could instead, treat that trap door with that special effect. It's going to be charming, whatever you do....See MoreHelp me choose new home exterior door colours please :)
Comments (8)The advice I have seen would be similar to this: the garage should not be the focal point but rather, should blend in. So you would select a color that would cause it to disappear against the siding material. The front door should be highlighted either with color or interesting features such as attractive planters, lighting, etc. Pretty sure most advice would call for selecting one “visually heavy” material (either brick or stone) but not both. And I believe they would recommend not having the stone facade run up toward the roof of just one area (because it’s a visually heavy or grounded material it should stay low to the ground). These are suggestions I have read over the past couple of months and learned from reading various books. I’m not a pro or a designer....See MoreRUGS! Need help choosing entry rug and runner! What are the rules?!
Comments (3)THE RULE Is don't make a second post!! Go to a real carpet store, ask to see stair runners that come in 36 inch widths.Have it made to the length you need and backed with non skid. Or look at area rugs in 3 x 5 for the entry if that fits.. No doormat sizes. Ready made runners will be too narrow for your space No to the rug under table. You need an 8 x10 and I doubt that fits. Nothing is far better, than a too small rug....See MoreGetting new entry door/side lights, need help with a style
Comments (3)thank you for the rendering, since the picture was taken all the burgundy paint trim (making all the rectangles) was painted the same as the rest of the area so that it just blended in. The door itself is being replaced, right now it is 6 panel with no glass/window. The side lights are each 24 inches wide and the texture is such that at night you can see in pretty clearly. The sidelights are also older glass that has little to no insulation value and we are in a cold climate. We don’t want to make the entry smaller because of the brickwork that would have to be added. Instead we are looking at building up trim in between the sidelights and the door. because the house is a tri-level and no one is building those anymore (I believe) I am struggling with what kind of door to replace with. We are not mid-century and don’t really like that style anyway. while I can scroll through images and doors for sale I just don’t know what the right look for the house should be....See Morepatty
