Your Opinion on These Four from Palatine
Comments (18)NEPTUNE does ok for me. I don't spray (but I should) and it does get some mildew and thrips. Actually the thrips are my worst problem with any of my roses. But I just don't have time to spray. NEPTUNE repeats fairly well for me, and the blooms are quite beautiful, altho they can blow kind of fast. I like it tho I got PAROLE from Heirloom about 4 or 5 yrs ago when they were the only ones who had it, so of course it is ownroot. I have yet to see one bloom on it. The plant is still teeny tiny and does practically nothing. Maybe I should order a grafted one also! I've had LUCY for many yrs. Got her when she first came out. The plant is not doing well, and hasn't for sometime. I get only mild winters, but we do get a bit of snow a few days a yr. Nothing I have to prepare for. I've never lost a rose to winter. But LUCY is just faltering along. She died back this yr to one cane, and I keep watching to make sure she doesn't totally croak on me. So far, so good. But her blooms are so beautiful. Definitely worth trying to keep her going in your harsher winters. So, have you guys seen all the new roses Palatine lists? I just placed my order last night. I was thrilled to see LAGUNA FREELANDER. Saw it on the Kordes website last yr and was hoping they'd someday bring that one over here. I also ordered BEVERLY, HOLSTEINPERLE (one I always thought about getting from Michael Fischer when he was still in business), BONANZA FREELANDER, CHARMANT FREELANDER and THANKSGIVING ROSE (a shrub from Kordes)....See Morepalatine website
Comments (6)nanodoll, I was able to obtain some of the roses of Mathias Tantau Sr., and Jr. especially, when Eurodesert closed. Some of those are 'Goldregen' ('Golden Rain'). 'Landora' ('Sunblest'), 'Pussta' ('New Daily Mail'). I have 'Cinnabar' and 'Juliska' from Vintage, and the famous HTs, "Tropicana', 'Fragrant Cloud', 'Anneliese Rotherberger' ('Oregold'), and 'Monica' in cheapo body bags, so if they don't survive the winter I am not out too much. 'Fragrant Cloud' is one of my all time favorite roses. Love, love the color, in all stages and the fragrance is to die for. 'Pussta' is one of the best floribundas I have ever grown or seen, and I can't understand why it is not better known and more often sold. They are a bit challenging in my climate, cold and wet, but with a fert regimen and winter protection, they have thrived so far. I get lots of compliments on both 'Golden Rain' and 'Sunblest', even though both are often dismissed as inferior yellow roses. Possibly that is because yellow is challenging in our climate, so not often seen in roses. Hans Evans took over the company in 1985. I am not so familiar with his work. I do have 'Diadem', a pink floribunda from 87. So far I am a bit underwhelmed, but this only the first year I have had it....See MoreNEW PALATINE ROSES !!!! Out of my way!!
Comments (176)Here's hoping the spring flush will be preceded by a very wet winter in California. My plot looks like a desert landscape with a few trees stuck in here and there. The squirrels have denuded the hillside and thrown tons of dirt and stones onto the concrete, and neither hubby nor I are any longer able to cope. I advise you all not to get autoimmune diseases because they will drain you dry. The one my husband has was unknown and unnamed until about five years ago, and my theory is that they are caused by a toxic environment and all the artificial substances we use, eat and drink which overwhelm the body's immune system and slowly destroy it. It's just another way we are destroying ourselves and the environment since sooner or later all that stuff enters the soil, water and atmosphere. Until they find out otherwise it's as good a theory as any, I say....See MoreMust buy roses/favorites from Palatine
Comments (51)Anne Henderson Garden Delight Marriotta Pink Grootendorst Pretty Dancer Roberto Alagna 'Anne Henderson' is an amazing rose, flush after flush of high centered long lasting russet colored blooms. 'Pretty Dancer' isn't just a pretty face, it's heavy blooming and healthy! Couldn't resist 'Garden Delight', lots of positive comments on this one and 'Roberto Alagne' was too tempting as well! 'Marriotta' looks like a real cutie and the 'Grootendorst' roses are so reliable for me!...See Moresara_ann-z6bok
