Builder extremely rude-not sure what to do
Comments (38)My husband and I met with him yesterday hoping to get a better timeline. There is another delay so instead of July we are looking at August. It's really not our decision making that is delaying as we're done with the major decisions. When I asked him for a timeline of when things are going to be ordered and completed for better idea we received a vague answer. When I asked him about tiles for kitchen/fireplace and lighting (which I completed selection over 2 months ago) he couldn't really give an answer other than "Don't worry I'll take care of it." That has been the answer to many things. I don't know what else to do other than wait and hope he follows through. I'd be concerned and I'd make sure he has lien releases for you to see. Like JDS said, make sure you have a paper trail to give him. Reading between the lines, it sounds like he's hurting for cash....See MoreBuilding a new home. Not sure about floor plan
Comments (39)The fact remains that neither of those plans is good for a growing family for many reasons. So if you're planning for a family, you can do better. And neither is particularly conducive to the way I would imagine a couple with no kids will want to use their home. (admitting that I have only been part of that "couple with no kids" demographic for about 10 months lol) There is no room for entertaining friends, the first plan has good space for guest room/hobby rooms/office but the second doesn't. The second plan has a practical guest bathroom. In both plans you need to walk 30 ft before you get to a spot to hang your coat or put down the bottle of wine you brought! And good luck getting shoes on and off in that bottleneck....See MoreI had these bricks left over and I wasn't sure what to do do with them
Comments (18)I can appreciate what you were trying to accomplish with this. :-) Part of the problem -- at least for me -- is that the bricks aren't stacked in a natural/logical orientation. If they were laid horizontally, so that they gave the appearance of being structural, I think my brain would have an easier time understanding the column (it would appear solid and less like a veneer). The corners/edges would also have been easier to integrate....See MoreWhat did you do to make sure your builder delivered on time?
Comments (19)I've had clauses in two projects (of 150+). My very first contract after leaving the family home building nest 30+ years ago, which cost me. The second was for a logistics expert. We beat it and collected. I learned to price changes with both dollars and time added. Remember that every time a trade shows up on your project and you say "I'll get back to you on that decision..." they may move to another project where decisions are complete. It may be a day or a few weeks. In this time of COVID, we're discovering a growing list of unpredictable items. Hardware & fixtures that would be under a week out can be 10-12 weeks. When we hear that, its better to reselect as those lead times can grow (in other words they really don't know). What if your window manufacturing plant shut down for a week or two? etc. Always get out there and complete selections much earlier than you think, engage in the design process, listen to expert suggestions....See Moresushipup1
