upholstered headboards, anyone?
Comments (54)mkrzy, great job on your headboard. I wish I were so handy. I like the white; you can always recover it with something else later. bebe, the bed is from a company called Fine Furniture. Their website is www.FFDM.com. We ordered ours from Boyles furniture in Mocksville, NC. The whole collection is beautiful and on sale right now. meg, I'm no expert on this but the leather would seem the most durable. You could always buy a piece of the microfiber and test it out. I'm just throwing caution to the wind with the fabric on mine but i do have three huge pillows that will probably always be there; we keep them in back of our sleeping pillows at night. Good News, the bed I ordered is actually in the warehouse!!!...See MoreNeed advice with headboard selection-pix included
Comments (9)Pattycakes, I'm glad you don't think velvet is dated. It's either that or taffeta, LOL, I found a real steal on some lighter milk chocolate taffeta fabric today that's pretty hard to resist, price-wise, so I may use that instead. Pmartin, that cording is blue, brown and almond like the silk, and I'll use it on the outer seam of the duvet. Tomorrowisanotherday, you sure know your paint - you absolutely nailed it on the recommendation of SW Macadamia! I went by Sherwin Williams today and picked up some sample strips, and the Mac matches the silk perfectly.....it's such a pretty color! I think that would be ideal for the wall color. If DD wants to go with another color, Quietitude or Rainwashed both looked great with the toile Four Seasons. It's great to have choices...... Deeinohio - great idea about making the headboard a slipcover, I'm working on that idea. The only problem with that is that I wanted to tuft the headboard, or use nailheads, and I can't do that if it slips on and off. I'm still on the fence thinking that over. Kimiko232, I agree, a milk chocolate would be better than a deep, dark brown. I'm afraid if it's too dark that would be too strong against the lighter almond and robins egg. I'm hoping to get a soft, airy look for the room, so think I need to stay on the lighter end of the color spectrum. Thank you all for your comments and advice. I'm learning a lot as I go. I found a tone on tone silk stripe remnant today that matches the silk in the duvet that I decided to use for the chair, instead of a darker brown. I think that will look better, especially since the walnut stain on the chair is already so dark that a darker brown would just be too much of the same color. I'll make some decisions on the upholstered headboard within the next few days, now that I have some direction....See MoreFuture Guest Room: Fabric for headboard, bed. Lamps, window treatment?
Comments (14)Yes, you can order just the headboard and use a heavy duty bed frame. That's what I did with the Charles P Rogers iron bed in my guest room. I love the look of the footboard but didn't have much space. Brass Beds of Virginia also offers a low footboard for its iron beds. I like that option better than no footboard because I think the interlocking frame makes for a more sturdy bed. If you go to their website and click on a bed you like you might be able to see an illustration of what the low footboard option would look like....See MoreMatching Headboard broke, can't be repaired. Comments (28)Perhaps the most invalid analogy ever: "It's like when a soccer mom with 5 kids goes into a car dealership and the salesman keeps trying to sell her sport's cars when she keeps telling him she wants a mini van". More accurate analogy: It's like when a soccer mom with 5 kids goes into a car dealership and the salesman keeps trying to sell her sport's cars when she keeps telling him she wants a mini van. but she wants it to look like a sports car, get the mileage of a Prius, the longevity of a Volvo, the ten year warranty included..... for the price of a used Chevy compact,. The other difference is she may have the "good grace" to realize it's not possible. Politely stated, the above beds are West Elm and Ethan Allen respectively. I would suggest jumping by kiddies on either is not a great idea, and both will be in the vicinity of a grand. They will not jiggle as they are the entire bed, versus a headboard bolted to a hollywood frame. I would suggest the first, to avoid the "matchy matchy" which is to drown a room in dark brown furniture, in this case a dresser, two side tables and bed, all the same. The warm golden tone far more updated , especially in consideration with green......... I'll politely suggest a hardware change on the brown furniture should that be an issue....See Morejewelisfabulous
