Ok Here's the question. Why should one spend what seems to be a good deal of money for a 8" foundation for either a 3" firm Latex or Memory foam topper? Why wouldn't a good firm inexpensive 8" foam base work? After all you're really only sleeping on the topper. I don't see the point of expensive custom multi-layering. I priced a Talalay latex mattress and the 8" queen size foundation was over $2000 and the 3" topper was only around $400. Both were the same firmness so what was I getting with a $2000 base? Even with Memory foam there's all sorts of pricey combinations but in the end there's the 2" or 3" topper your sleeping on. What does the base really do other than support the topper? (And yes I've read about the air flow foundation advantage but it seems a little far fetched to me...) Also does anyone know where I can purchase a good reasonable 8" foundation for a platform bed?

I don't think there is ANY harm in posting in both places..if someone doesn't want to read..no one is making them. As far as I know, you can't remove posts once they are made...I see NO problem as far as I am concerned with posts in both places. I think personally it was rude to complain of such when tons of these forums will show multiple posts. This is a slow moving forum on top of it. I guess there are cranky people on the net just as in real life. I am sorry for that. As far as the foam...buy the thickest you can. I love mine. I have the dense 2 inch pad on top of a brand new mattress. I paid about 150 dollars for it. Keep in mind, don't buy cheap...you get what you pay for..I would not be without..it is like sleeping in a cloud. I never want to get out of the darn thing and I rarely wake with a backache anymore. I have less than desirable sleeping habits that often caused back troubles. They are rare now...I believe it is the pad that is the answer in combination with a memory pillow for necks. My two children just graduated from College in recent years and I wish those pads would of exsisted for them but they did not then...or at least not in my area. I would definately buy one for a college student. Those beds are nasty...and who knows what slept on them or how clean they were kept...dust mites I am sure abound in them. Don't hesitate...but check your size..you may or may not need extra long. Congradulations on sending your child off to college..it is a exciting and fun road to watch your children travel.

We are also looking at getting latex topper. Our mattress, which is theoretically natural latex (we have some questions about the veracity of that claim), is just not comfortable because it's too firm for us. Right now we have a 3" memory foam topper that I am done with (too hot, can't turn over without arching our backs off the bed). After speaking with a local company that manufactures natural latex mattresses and pads, I get the impression that adding a topper to an iffy mattress can actually make it worse. It sounds like your mattress is not supportive enough for you. I've heard of putting a board underneath a too soft mattress to make it firmer. Perhaps that would be worth a shot? I found a place online, Habitat Furnishings, that sells the toppers and mattresses, with a very long trial period/money back guarantee. If you're unsure, maybe that would be a good option so you're not out any more money. If it doesn't work, a new mattress might be your only option. I'm not thrilled at the idea of spending more money two years after we bought this mattress, but I have to be able to sleep. Maybe someone else can chime in with knowledge of whether the latex toppers could make it feel firmer. My gut says no, but I don't know for sure. I hope you find a solution that works for you!

Well, I went ahead and purchased the one below. Chisue, there is quite a bit of information on the linked page, plus links to the "Buyers Guide" for more information. I don't think they are returnable to overstock.com, but I've seen them at Kohls and Marshalls where they might be returnable if used. Anyway, they would be nearly impossible to repack and get in a box to ship back, plus costly to ship. I previously purchased a latex pad (a little different from memory foam), but it's still too firm. I'll put it on the guest bed. So I'm trying the memory foam now.
