Have you considered Permits? licensed plumber? tile installer? materials? budget?

You are opening a can of moldy old dirty worms and id expect to find some rot and mold damage behind it all.. perhaps some framing repairs....

In short be prepared to go " slighty " OVER budget before moving fwd..

You also have yet to pull out your long wall tub enclosure where you "may" (based on tub flange in pictures) be pleasantly suprised to find room enough when considering the 2 components.

Start there before worrying about dims.

In the event im wrong.......... removing beadboard and adding furring and a sheet of drywall/corner bead is affordable, although that may kill your Budget dead..

notching studs=bad idea regardless. More so when considering the option of furring the other wall out a bit.

And likely you would lose most or all your tub flange if you really are truly that tight on space anyways.

Just be prepared for budget shock BEFORE you go tearing it all apart....

I may suggest doing some basic cost/expense math NOW rather than when its torn apart......

Can you post a floor plan? What's the problem with building the wall out by 2"? That's a relatively simple fix, and preferable, IMO, to notching out studs.

Regarding budget, we did a budget DIY gut of a 5x7 bathroom and materials ran us $2500 total. Your reno may be less extensive than ours (new window, new subfloor and joists due to water damage, new drywall, heated floors). If you're just replacing tub and floor, you might make it, but it'll be tight. I don't see any room for hiring labor.

I just bought a 3 wall alcove tub for my basement that was less than 30" wide.

The other aspect of this is that a 30 x 60 tub requires 30 x 60 stud to stud. So the 30" x 60" tub I just took out measured 29" x 58-1/2", roughly once the wall board and tile were up. So you may indeed have 30" from the stud to the corner in which to squeeze a 30" wide tub.

I don't think that $2000 is going to be enough, by quite a bit. The cheapest bathroom I've managed for anyone where a new tub and tile surround and simple flooring were all that was involved was about $6000, and my typical modest bath with nothing fancy but needing a certain amount of plumbing repair and electrical upgrade is probably about $12K -13K.

In most locations, if you get permits as you should, you are not going to be able to replace that 3 handle system with another 3 handle system because they aren't pressure balanced (scalding risk), and to replace that, parts and labor would be close to $2000 by itself. (this is in the international residential plumbing code, but I know some areas are lax with enforcement).
