I bought some oriental lilies last year from a mail-order site. I gave 3 to my mom and kept 3. Both sets show baby plants growing nearby. I'm pretty excited about that, because in all the years of buying lily bulbs from Lowes, Walmart, or Home Depot, not many of them produced baby plants, since I've always wanted more naturalization of these lilies.

My white rain lilies also reproduced like mad, so the estimated 8 plants I had last year became 30-40 plants when I checked their growing area to spread them out a bit.

6/7 clematises are also showing signs of growth in their 2nd year. I have one that is 3 years old but that one shows no signs yet. So I'm still looking forward to the time when I can have an entire trellis or garden section filled with clematis flowers.

Most of my spring bulbs have finished, the tulips are still in bud. I'm seeing new growth on the beauty berries, the mexican petunias, cannas are up, mondo grass has been trimmed and is bursting with new growth and the ajuga are beginning to bloom.

My Miranda rose bush is full of new leaves but no buds yet.

The forsythia is blooming and all of my iris have fresh blades but no blooms just yet.

As for my spring bulbs, I still have some daffodils and tulips blooming, but the aneomes are declining. The spanish bluebells started blooming this week, and the linaria that I planted from seed in January is soon to follow. I'm looking forward to seeing the triteleia bloom. I planted additional bulbs of it last fall as I was impressed by it the past two years. Here's a photo of it after it had been blooming for awhile, if you are unfamiliar with it:

My butterfly bush (buddleia) was evergreen again this winter. I trimmed it back last month and it is bushing out nicely. It's a favorite of the hummingbirds and, not surprisingly, butterflies. The monarchs and queen butterflies visit it often in the fall. The vitex tree is starting to leaf out along with the peach trees, cedar elms, and hackberries. My Russian sage and Texas star hibiscuses have resprouted, too. The perennials that wake up last for me are usually firebush (hamelia patens) and yellow bells (tecoma stans).
