Michael Shoup (ARE) --- Tulsa Rose Society speaker yesterday

Michael Shoup, owner of the Antique Rose Emporium, spoke yesterday to a enthusiastic audience. Basically he spoke about the ease of growing roses, and rose rustling. His "found roses" came from remote areas around Texas, and the roses had been on their own for up to 100 years. The logic is that if the rose can live without care in Texas, it should survive in my garden with my weak attempts to care for it.

His roses are antique roses for the most part, and the cover of his new book has a beautiful picture of Souvenir de la Malmaison. He explained how to do a "cutting", and the importance of taking cutting, with permission, rather than taking the rose itself.

My new list for this year: Madame Joseph Schwartz (a sport of Duchesse de Brabant), Felicia, Buff Beauty, Mrs. Dudley Cross, Miss Caroline, McClinton tea, G. Nabonnand.

I hope our spring is beginning today.
