O K, this is something I need, within a week or so....
Comments (21)Perfect, absolutely perfect... Jane, yes...that's the house and thankyou so much for the pictures of it..it's one of the chosen places I really want to see in person, if the day comes I jump aboard the clipper.. Kathy and Kathy....both are excellent... if I wasn't so adamant about gardening, with actual dirt and plants, I would love to fill my yard with this same kind of yard art but that never was the goal of what's transpired with my battle with the gestapo guy... I always had tripling up the garden space, with whimsical things added all around..but it's been an uphill fight, for months with the next door neighbors and for the life of me, I don't know why they don't just get a life and leave me alone.. before they had the fence built, I could understand them not liking the pile of junk I had on the side of the house..that was acceptable..I mean acceptable that they didn't like it all.. but after the fence was built, they just didn't let up. the day the survey was finished and I had a copy of it all in my possession, I was like given a second chance at life itself.. you know when you're in a restaurant and by chance you end up at a table, where the noisiest people in the world seem to gather..not just a couple but an entire extended family and they talk a mile a minute, top of their lungs and you wonder if they will EVER shut up or EVER leave... then, they finally finish and leave the place.. you sit back and are so tired from them all, that you just sigh a sigh of relief... or if you're out camping..in the quiet, in the woods..and some idiot cranks up the car radio, or battery operated radio, with music you detest....and they have a 'good ol' boy' party, bbq... drinking...then arguing, then either the cops are called or they finally pass out, till morning, when they start it all over again.....finally, camping is over and you go home, exhausted.... well, having the survey papers confirming my thoughts that the fence was on my side of the property.... that was the same kind of 'silver lining' in the clouds that came over me.. I could think straight, I could sleep at night, I could feel comfortable in knowing my boundries, both realistically and figuratively.. it was awesome... now, since we've gotten rid of what I believe were the points of concern...solid waste..(appliances that showed, since the carport fell down from snow) and the bags of coffee grounds and other misc...I don't think there's any reason for me to concentrate on anything other than my gardening in potted plants and raised beds, with the other garden junk art that I had planned. if he has a problem with any more, I will take it up with the county and file harassment charges. it's just gotta stop somewhere. and....I will have more than one person here, in my defense, to walk around, while 'gestapo guy' does the same. I have 30 different emails I've sent to myself, from google, emails and posted pictures on here and other albums some of you have in your own folders... there must be no less than at least a hundred photos... all of them too cool to single any out.. thankyou to any and all of you, who have contributed to this cause..I appreciate it so much. and sure wish you could all converge in my yard, the day he shows up...lol sincerely, Becky .(*_*)....See MoreSay something nice or say nothing at all!
Comments (80)Gran was clearly hurt by someone's comments. Beyond that, there's A LOT of assumptions being made about her here, probably compounding that hurt. So where's all the self-professed - ad nauseam - wonderful, caring, Christian, loving, blah, blah, blah fellowship that should be manifesting itself in empathy toward her? Instead, many people have chosen to express how THEY feel or have felt. ME, ME, ME. For all the "I'm so wonderful because" . . . comments on these forums, please explain to me how any of the following comments are "constructive" here: trotting out social bromides Who died and made the critic the authority on proper social behavior; audacity to issue an edict; rudely demanded better behavior; lecturing the masses; I don't know or care about the OP a really bad hormonal malfunction day jump out at us again instruct this group on how to behave, what they should post, and how to post it. chastise other members beat about the head I don't care I continually find it amazing that some of you who spend inordinate amounts of time posting on these forums DO think that you have an elevated status. This is a public forum. You don't own it by virtue of squatting here. There's a BIG difference between constructive criticism and cruel criticism, and IMO, there are plenty of times that people on this forum take advantage of their anonymity to be unnecessarily harsh or just plain mean. In those instances, there is no intention to help the OP at all but, rather, an opportunity for someone with low self esteem to puff up by bragging, or putting down someone else in order to build themself up. I would like to know what Gran is referring to also, but I can't blame her for not returning. I'm sorry that your feelings were hurt, Gran. I hope that you will stick around and continue to lurk, or even post again, NO MATTER AT WHAT INTERVAL. As you wade through this thread's comments, you will see the intelligence shine through in the comments that are made with care and thoughtfulness, in an effort to be kind and helpful. They're worth digging around for. As you read more threads on these forums, you'll recognize these people by their manner, and their advice/comments will come to be of value to you. As for the others, let their obnoxiousness be like water on a duck. Unfortunately, you do have to have a thick skin at times, but consider the sources. There is a lot of great info here and there are people who do truly want to help, not hurt. I personally feel that it IS important to be considerate. Am I perfect in this regard? Nope. But I try to be, and I see less and less consideration and empathy around me every day. It IS sad. If I were the person who hurt Gran's feelings, I would feel lousy and want to apologize....See MoreBeen a while: somethings new; somethings old/relocated
Comments (17)My new nightstand has arrived (finally). For those of you who don't know/recall, I bought a floor model Stickley mahogany dresser from a local furniture store last summer on clearance (about 60% off MSRP, which is still insane at just shy of $3800 on sale). But Stickley had discontinued the line (why it was on clearance) and I wanted to get a nightstand to match. At the time, I had just bought the Henkel Harris pineapple bed (#29 cherry finish, which very closes matches the Stickley mahogany in the hampton finish) and the dresser to "match." I looked everywhere, and no one had any stock of the Stickley nightstand I wanted. So one day, I asked the same store where I bought the dresser to call the factory to see if the factory had any white stock of that style of dresser (white stock is furniture that's been made but is waiting to be finished and lacks hardware). After Stickley made the banded mahogany version I have (it's solid, not veneer and is "banded" by using a silkscreen technique) and discontinued it, they went to a solid in the same fluted style but with different hardware. But that solid was discontinued, too. So the nightstand in white stock was solid. After checking with their engineers, they got back to me and said they had enough of the matching hardware to do the nightstand and that the engineers could specially make the banded treatment for me (at a slight up charge). So, 10 weeks later, I received it, and it's perfect. It's hard to imagine being able to get this sort of treatment, and I truly commend Stickley (and my local furniture store, which had the idea to see if Stickley had any lying around anyhow). It was pricey, however, at $1950. But worth it (to me, at least). So now, I've pushed the bed over toward the windows and French door, and it's given me great space when you walk into the room. But I cannot decide what type of lamp to get and where to hang art. All ideas appreciated. (I had bought a Ralph Lauren blue and white ceramic/porcelain lamp, but I hated it once I put it on the nightstand, so that's out.) I think most of you know that I just had the drapes made, etc., so don't comment about those being changed out. You may also know that I'm still hunting for a plain duvet that will work so that I can fold up the quilt at the end of the bed, but that hasn't come up yet. Thank you all....See MoreSomething old or something new? Pictures!
Comments (55)Tinker, I love the new set but the old set is my favorite. I have a Canadel set that is 7 yrs old with matching bars stools. Have never been crazy about it and the table scratches easily which I was assured it would not. I felt like I had to keep this set because I thought it was expensive, but I think I will justify getting rid of it soon as well. Your house is just lovely! You have done a terrific job creating a cottage feel....See Moremgmum
