Mtnrdredux, what do you think of the new bathroom one? I like it better with all of the chrome, and it still has black undertones and a blackish inner frame, so it ties together with the leathered antique brown granite and the veining in the calacatta. I did like the black frame against the wall color, but not the gold part.

Everything looks great, but for me, some of the art is a bit small and lost in the spot where you hung them.

The black and gold framed one may be moving to the side of the bed when my new Stickley nightstand comes because I will be getting rid of the two living room end tables I'm currently using as bedside tables and pushing the bed over about 5". The brass reading lamp by the tartan chair will then move over to the side of the bed opposite the new nightstand and that's where the painting would go.

Kevin, as usual, everything looks refined and wonderful. The new painting in the bathroom looks like it complements the metals and other colors nicely. Transferring the bathroom painting to the wall above the desk in the diningroom was a good call. By the way, like the arrangement on the secretary. I was wondering how the bathroom door was coming along. You're right, stripping pain is a real PITA. I've been working, off and on for months, stripping paint from a 6-piece wall unit for my livingroom. You're a great role model for plugging onward and getting the job completed. Thanks for sharing the photos. I alway look forward to your updates.

You need a blog. I'd love to read more about your adventures beyond the front door in creating all.

My only suggestion is the painting in the guest room. I would take it down and rest it on the table under the light. And as others have mentioned, some of them look lonely. Perhaps think of a grouping on the larger walls. Not necessarily all paintings, a wall sconce for a candle, etc.

I'm trying to decide what to do with the large painting on the wall in the dining room. I'm thinking of getting it framed with a gold frame similar to the one I've just put over the fireplace, but it's expensive, and I'm not sure I'm set on that piece of art. The colors are great for the room, and I happen to like modern art in traditional settings, but I don't think it works with just the canvas and no frame.

I am still saving up to frame all our big art (one 24x24, a 30x30, and a 36x36).

I do agree that some of the art looks small, but I also know that some of our smaller pieces look "lost" in photographs but look fine in real life. The only thing that bugs me is hanging art on the same wall as a service item (it's either your thermostat or security keypad). My eye is immediately drawn to that white plastic box. Especially on some of those rich wall colors. I do know that in some spaces it can't be avoided, though.

I love your home. It's a lovely balance of classic, warm, and masculine.

I have never had a tour of your home and it is beautiful. You've probably talked about it before but it looks really interesting and I love the colours and furnishings that you have put together.

I have to hand it to you, Kevin. You really have a great eye for spotting bargains. Every time I go into Home Goods I want to gag and get out as fast as I can. I should make myself wander back to their paintings and see if I can find anything as wonderful as you have.

It's not that difficult to move light switches and HVAC controls. I would definitely move that light switch in your canopy BR since it is forcing you to hang that picture too high on the wall.

Glad you hung the antlers over the pass through. I'd swap (back?) the horse painting over the desk for the boat prow one, to each other's current placement. A larger painting on that service wall won't compete as much with the thermostat, if you can't have it moved.

You have a gift for design. That with your DIY skills, your relationship with a good upholsterer and contractor plus your impeccable eye, I wonder when is your design firm opening?

My new nightstand has arrived (finally). For those of you who don't know/recall, I bought a floor model Stickley mahogany dresser from a local furniture store last summer on clearance (about 60% off MSRP, which is still insane at just shy of $3800 on sale). But Stickley had discontinued the line (why it was on clearance) and I wanted to get a nightstand to match. At the time, I had just bought the Henkel Harris pineapple bed (#29 cherry finish, which very closes matches the Stickley mahogany in the hampton finish) and the dresser to "match." I looked everywhere, and no one had any stock of the Stickley nightstand I wanted.

So one day, I asked the same store where I bought the dresser to call the factory to see if the factory had any white stock of that style of dresser (white stock is furniture that's been made but is waiting to be finished and lacks hardware). After Stickley made the banded mahogany version I have (it's solid, not veneer and is "banded" by using a silkscreen technique) and discontinued it, they went to a solid in the same fluted style but with different hardware. But that solid was discontinued, too. So the nightstand in white stock was solid. After checking with their engineers, they got back to me and said they had enough of the matching hardware to do the nightstand and that the engineers could specially make the banded treatment for me (at a slight up charge).

So, 10 weeks later, I received it, and it's perfect. It's hard to imagine being able to get this sort of treatment, and I truly commend Stickley (and my local furniture store, which had the idea to see if Stickley had any lying around anyhow). It was pricey, however, at $1950. But worth it (to me, at least).

So now, I've pushed the bed over toward the windows and French door, and it's given me great space when you walk into the room. But I cannot decide what type of lamp to get and where to hang art. All ideas appreciated. (I had bought a Ralph Lauren blue and white ceramic/porcelain lamp, but I hated it once I put it on the nightstand, so that's out.)

I think most of you know that I just had the drapes made, etc., so don't comment about those being changed out. You may also know that I'm still hunting for a plain duvet that will work so that I can fold up the quilt at the end of the bed, but that hasn't come up yet. Thank you all.
