building new home, help me pick out all appliances
Comments (29)Okay, this is where I'm at right now. Let me know if you think I'm on target now. The only thing I'm unsure about it where to go refrigeration wise if I can't make the Thermador Freedom columns work in my kitchen. What's the best fridge quality wise if going with a side-by-side while not having the stomach to pay Sub Zero money. Kitchen Aid or Jenn Air pro? I have a two year old Jenn Air in my current kitchen (Amana with the fancy handles). Also, is it a no-no to do a built in look and have the water and ice in the door? I know it looks better without but man I'm going to hate to have to open a door to get ice and water. Appliance worksheet Option 1 1. Wolf Range top RT366 2. Comments (6)The kitchen is 12' x 19'6" and is open to the family room which is about 14'x 18'8". We have 2 recessed lights over the fireplace in the family room, as well as 3 various lamps and 2 windows. There is a bay window in the kitchen and patio doors, as well as a window over the sink, so during the day we get plenty (sometimes too much) light. At night it's a different story. It can be pretty dim sometimes. We only have 200 watts above the table right now, and the big old ugly flourescent light box (4) 40 watt tubes, in the center of the room, and a flush mount fixture over the sink (2) 40 watt bulbs. So over the table we would be gaining 160 watts with the new fixture, 20 watts with where the light box currently is (although I don't know how a flush mount with 180 watts compares to flourescent tubes that are 160 watts) and also gaining 20 watts over the sink. I don't think we are going to do under cabinet lighting, because our budget is really dwindling. Would UC lighting be very helpful? If so, I may reconsider. We just don't want to keep adding extras we won't recoup when we move in a couple of years. BTW, if anyone has an opinion on the brushed steel vs dark bronze (which looks almost black IRL), I'd love to hear it. (SS appliances with some black on them, ss sink, brushed nickel faucet, probably satin nickel cab hardware, and 2 interior doors with antique pewter levers). I could always look at some other fixtures. I've seen some that I didn't like quite as well, but could get 500 watts over the table and 300 watts in the center of the room. Would this be a better option? Sorry, I'm all over the place on this. I hate pressure to decide quickly!...See MorePlease help me pick appliances for new build
Comments (1)this is what we have and we are very satisfied with all: Miele DW, diamante plus, but i think its discontinued, cleans great Miele speed oven: Love this oven. if u get this u don't need a microwave, its does it all!!! Wolf "E" series full size oven. we got a floor model from appliance store so saved $$, no problems with blue flaking although others have a had this problem. cooks beautifully, even/true temps Miele 36" induction cooktop, Love induction, would never go back to any other type. easy to use/clean, just a great appliance. other brands also get pretty high marks on here, i really never read a bad review about any induction tops. i guess u decide on layout, looks and cost. was going to get wolf, but miele was cheaper and i loved the look of it, no SS edges like the bosch, just a real clean, simple design. Liebherr 36" FD frig, love it and no problems. looked a sub-zero, but liebherr was much cheaper. i wanted a paneled frig, so that really narrowed down my choices., not a fan of SS frigs so i knew i was not going that route at all. we are a family of 5 and the frig is more than adequate but we also have a freezer in laundry room. you can also check out ebay and your local craigslist to try and save some $ i know gwers love the thermador frig/freezer columns, so that might be worthwhile to look into. these appliances are around 3 years old........See MorePlease help me pick appliance package?
Comments (8)I don't have appliance recommendations for you, as I sense that your budget for appliances is higher than mine was, when I built two-three years ago. I will say I LOVE my induction range - the only change I'd make would be to go to 36" over the 30" I have. I've cooked on both gas, regular electric and induction, and I far prefer induction. Easy cleanup, temperatures at the lower end are easier to control than gas, and if I had young children, I'd just feel safer about it. The only downsides I've found have been that you can't run the induction during power outages, and you can't roast / char peppers on the elements. (But both of those can be taken care of via the outdoor grill, and I don't really need to roast peppers often anyway.) A lot of people have discovered that having different heights at the island or peninsula aren't that efficient - so I'd recommend against the elevated seating areas. Like you, I have my sink on the peninsula, but without the elevated area behind the sink - with enough of your counter slab material behind the sink, you won't get splashings into the dining room. Many folk also find it more comfortable to sit at a counter at approximately 36" height than at 48 - including me, and I'm tall. I do have some layout thoughts, but I'll try to remember to look at this further later on today, with an actual suggestion or two. But I am wondering if you need all those counter seating areas, or if just one of them would suffice? (How many are there of you, and how do you entertain?)...See MoreRelated Professionals
