Please take a look at Scherr's and Barker's, too. Both are US based RTA manufacturer's. You know what is in their materials. I just completed my Scherr's RTA cabinets. I'm working on a post right now to blog my experience.

I don't know anything about JSI, but when dealing with RTA's you will want to select a local manufacturer. Some of the Chinese companies will beat on price, but the quality won't be first rate. If you go to the trouble of RTA's you want superior quality, not just barely good enough.

I tried to do my due diligence before I made my selection. Scherr's, Barkers and Conestoga/The Cabinet Joint all seemed to have good reviews.

Thank you. I am considering Barker but hadn't looked into Scherr's. I will check them out. I believe JSI is American made but I had difficulty sorting out whether their cabs were all American made, or only certain cabinet lines were American made.

I am in agreement on that point. There are a few door styles on their site with a big American Made logo on them....but not all the door styles have that logo which makes me wonder.

After a lot of research and agonizing over our cabinet decision, we finally ordered Barker RTA in natural cherry with conversion varnish. In doing so, we saved thousands over our other quotes which will allow us to purchase higher-end appliances. We have already assembled them, and are in the process of hanging them this coming week (knock on wood on the timing). Based on our experience, I can say without reservation that Barker cabinets ARE definitely top quality USA made cabinets and are VERY easy to assemble.

My contractor suggested these cabinets. Had Essex partially installed in my kitchen and am having to replace. Be careful if you use this brand and know which cabs have Butt doors and no stiles and which do not. They don't match up and look cheap. I am very unhappy with the quality of the cabinets. If I had seen them before buying I wouldn't have purchased.

kmckeithan can you tell me why about the butt or no butt doors that is the reason to be careful there?

We just ordered a bunch of cabinets manufactured by JSI. The price is very competitive but the quality was not. The materials were decent but the craftsmanship was very poor. We made the mistake in having the build the cabinets and it was a nightmare. On top of it they sent us the wrong color cabinets, twice.

If the seller lists the cabinets are CARB compliant won't that ensure that there isn't off gassing of harmful chemicals no matter where they're made?

Do you recall the faked CARB certificates that Lumber Liquidators was fined about and had many many lawsuits about? What about the lead paint that was on children's toys that was "certified"?
