World's Worst Cabinets?- your opinion, pics - long
Comments (24)I bought cabinets from this same guy and you are not imagining it, these are poor quality. I had many of the same issues plus I had damage to the finish. I brought out a custom cabinet builder/refinisher to see if they were repairable and his professional opinion is that the cabinets have been exposed to too many variables in humidity that is why there is so much bowing, shrinking, warping, separating, etc. In my case the finish actually bled onto the styrofoam packaging material leaving marks all over the finish. The replacements they sent had the same problems so I asked for a refund and told them to come get their cabinets. Like you I had assembled the cabinets that weren't damaged on the promise that the damaged ones would be replaced. Mind you it took 2 months to get replacements and they were no better. I also want to note that my phone calls and emails were not returned during the 2 months we were waiting on replacement cabinets. Because I am out of state and these items were being shipped I initially ordered one cabinet which my husband now refers to as the "bait cabinet" it was very nice unlike the majority of the other cabinets I later received. I did file a chargeback with my credit card company and Ben fought me every step of the way, even blatantly lied. Fortunately, I smelled a rat early on and saved every email and kept note of every unreturned phone call. I too filed with the bbb, I am the "refusing to adjust" complaint. Ultimately, I won my dispute but not without harrassment. The cabinets sat in our garage for a year waiting to be picked up and I finally donated them to a womens shelter. You may want to run his name through California state contractor license board- search by personnel- you may be surprised by what you find. It may also help to know that KitchenPros is also Lido Kitchens or something like that and Westlake Construction, might want to look up those names too. Good luck, I feel for you. The lesson I learned " if it seems to good to be true, it is" I now have pinnacle RTA which I purchased through a local hardware store and I love them!!...See MoreRTA Kitchen Cabinets
Comments (9)Before you order from Kitchens Pro, read the horror story I linked below. Definitely order the cheapest cabinet you need first before placing a full order. This will give you an idea of the color of the door and frame, and overall build quality. If you decide to go with something else, it is probably more cost effective to keep the cab than pay for return shipping. You can always use it out in the laundry room or the garage. A few weeks ago, I ordered the the Autumn Shaker series made by GHI and sold online at thertastore.com and the rtacabinetstore.com. I signed up for their e-mail newsletters while I waited for my sample cabinet to arrive. Thertastore.com has slightly higher prices, but had free shipping on all orders at the time, plus they sent a % off code in the newsletter that made the deal too sweet to resist. I got a kitchen full of cabinets for a little less than half what the big box home improvement stores and a custom cabinet maker wanted. Some of the sides are a little rough (stained plywood), but they sell finished end panels to cover it up. There were a couple of doors that need a little stain touch up, but most of the doors and frames look great. I installed all the base cabinets this past weekend, and will work on the uppers this weekend. The only negative I see is the doors are pre-hung, and some will require the hinges to be moved to the other side for functionality. I also ordered a sample cabinet from the Sturbridge shaker series that JSI makes from instockkitchens.com. It was a darker stain than I liked, and it needed some more stain around the edges of the inner panel of the door. It lacked the beveled edges on the boards of the door frame where they come together, yet were more expensive than the Autumn Shaker. Just my 2 cents. Comments (40)All the JSI RTA Cabinets I put in had "Made in Vietnam" stickers. This was late 2020. Two doors were warped and two doors of a mismatched chamfer, but Walcraft is great at sending replacements. I have issues with their assembly style, (you have to get your angle bracket screws dead centered with no pre-drill to keep them square) most seemed to be decent quality, but a bit of slop in the tolerances took a bit of extra finagling to assemble a few of the cabinets properly. PS - love the ~1/2" plywood backs, made it easy to put way too many screws into the studs!...See MoreHas anyone bought cabinets off Ebay - NEW
Comments (41)The JSI factory is in Fall River MA. The address is: 485 Commerce Drive, Fall River, MA 02720 All of the displays are there and the cabinets are really lovely. However, they don't have full-extension drawers and only self-close not soft close. The drawers close hard/load. I was working with Stacey at Woodlist.com. He got me an appointment to see them. Their site also has a good list of the cabinets and trims available with sketches. The price point is higher than Nieghbors, but Stacey said that was flexible. Their link is below. I also went and saw the Kabinart cabinets that are available from mfkusa.com. They are great! There are lots of choices in doors, colors, cabinets and trim. The construction is top notch. The price is comparable to the JSI line. Has any one used the Kraftmaid cabinet buyer that goes to the warehouse for you? Here is a link that might be useful: Woodlist cabinets...See Morehappyallison
