Has anyone bought 'plugs' form EBay?
Comments (24)Second shipment from Carmela arrived, still no word from C&H. This time I ordered 4 x 3 compots plus one 25 plug tray. (Go to the eBay page described earlier to get the details) Total $128 less 15% comes to $109 plus $25 shipping for a total of aprox $130. I unpotted one of the compots and got 15 large seedling plants, almost the size of the plug plants plus 18 small plantlets which will go back into a new compot. Assuming the rest of the compots will yield 30 plants each, we are talking of a potential of 360 compot plants 1/2 of which are 1 year behind the rest and 25 plug plants which are 1 year ahead of the larger compot plants. Thats a best case scenario of 385 plants blooming spread over a 3 year period for $130. That's about 30 cents a plant, realistically 40 cents as some are runts and may not make it. I like this better than the flasking scene. The plants are well established with roots and acclimatised to the real world at the same or better price than flask plants which would be 1 year behind, besides being so delicate. As Borat would say "Great success" if for no other reason that this will keep me busy for quite a while potting up and caring for all these plants. Further more, the empty bench space will be occupied, having empty bench space is one of the cardinal sins of orchid growing and must not be tolerated under any circumstances. Comments (4)I bought one and as hotdiggetydam says....high winds twisted the frame tubing. It might be OK if you were to place it in a very protected site, but then you most likely won't get the light coming in that you need. We took it down and I purchased a 6 x 8 HFGH and haven't had any problems caused by the wind....See MoreAnyone bought large antique furniture on e-bay?
Comments (4)We've purchased several large items on E-Bay. We purchased a used sailboat which was in New Mexico (we're in Pennsylvania), an antique car in England, and an antique armoire in New Jersey. We've been happy with all three transactions. We were pretty careful to protect ourselves: 1. We reviewed the sellers' feedback carefully. 2. We asked a lot of questions about the car and boat, and got extra pictures. 3. The armoire was close enough that we could go and inspect it in person. It was also close enough to transport it in the back of our van rather than pay for shipping. 4. In the case of the car in England, we asked a friend who lived nearby to go and inspect it for us. This may be an option with a piece of furniture if you have far-flung friends or relatives. 5. In the case of the boat, we took a bigger gamble by buying it sight unseen. My husband did a lot of research on comparable boats and made sure he was getting a good enough deal that if some aspects were less than advertised, it was still a reasonable deal. He also drove out to pick it up in person and tow it home. In this way, he could opt out of the deal if there were something terribly wrong. We also avoided the problem of damage in shipping and determining responsibility for damage. It was all on us! I wouldn't be afraid of buying antique furniture on E-Bay, but take some precautions....See MoreWorld's Worst Cabinets?- your opinion, pics - long
Comments (24)I bought cabinets from this same guy and you are not imagining it, these are poor quality. I had many of the same issues plus I had damage to the finish. I brought out a custom cabinet builder/refinisher to see if they were repairable and his professional opinion is that the cabinets have been exposed to too many variables in humidity that is why there is so much bowing, shrinking, warping, separating, etc. In my case the finish actually bled onto the styrofoam packaging material leaving marks all over the finish. The replacements they sent had the same problems so I asked for a refund and told them to come get their cabinets. Like you I had assembled the cabinets that weren't damaged on the promise that the damaged ones would be replaced. Mind you it took 2 months to get replacements and they were no better. I also want to note that my phone calls and emails were not returned during the 2 months we were waiting on replacement cabinets. Because I am out of state and these items were being shipped I initially ordered one cabinet which my husband now refers to as the "bait cabinet" it was very nice unlike the majority of the other cabinets I later received. I did file a chargeback with my credit card company and Ben fought me every step of the way, even blatantly lied. Fortunately, I smelled a rat early on and saved every email and kept note of every unreturned phone call. I too filed with the bbb, I am the "refusing to adjust" complaint. Ultimately, I won my dispute but not without harrassment. The cabinets sat in our garage for a year waiting to be picked up and I finally donated them to a womens shelter. You may want to run his name through California state contractor license board- search by personnel- you may be surprised by what you find. It may also help to know that KitchenPros is also Lido Kitchens or something like that and Westlake Construction, might want to look up those names too. Good luck, I feel for you. The lesson I learned " if it seems to good to be true, it is" I now have pinnacle RTA which I purchased through a local hardware store and I love them!!...See Morecarrianne22
