What do you wear when working in your garden?
Comments (24)I have been using long pants (usually sweats) in the yard for the past 2 summers, and they really help with the mosquitoes (for some reason they go after my legs more than my arms). I haven't found a good shoe type. I don't want to wear boots and sandals do not do the job sometimes. I'll try crocs or something similar also. I recently started using nitrile gloves also. it feels good to be able to walk into the house with mostly clean hands, even though I know some people like working in bare hands. I don't mind but dirt under the finger nails is something I don't think too much about nowadays, after realizing that I am comfortable with the gloves doing yard work....See Morewhat shoes do you wear with your jeans?
Comments (25)Yes, they are cool and I am totally cool when I wear them. I wish Boulet still made the same style. From day one they were comfortable, not stiff like most cowboy boots. I have had them for over 10 years - maybe 12 yrs? and just this year the leather is starting to tear over the right toe area. I don't think that is something that can be fixed. But you have to admit, considering I wear them year round, summertime too, that is a good long time for any shoe to last!...See MoreWhere do you keep your shoes?
Comments (5)My summer sandals and work shoes are kept in a hanging canvas shoe bag (holds 10 pair, vertical cubbies with room for another pair on top, several more underneath on floor) mounted to the wall in my bedroom sort of recessed a little out of plain sight in the narrow space between the closet wall and an antique wardobe. A few pair of (seldom used) sneakers etc. on the tiers of a shoe rack in the side of my small bedroom closet, slippers on the back wall of the closet in a traditional canvas shoe holder, boots in the entry closet, and all off season shoes except boots are in upstairs storage. This system works for me; when I had all my shoes in a pile in the entry closet, I never wore them, so agree with you wholeheartedly! With me, out of sight is not only inconvenient, but "out of mind" for lots of things, not only shoes. And it seems to be getting worse with age! Good idea - hope your plan works well!...See MoreWhat do you wear on your feet?
Comments (44)Yep, I would consider muck boots as default wellies. Meindls are actually German - take a look at their website - they used to have a really interesting video about the making of them - more or less handmade still in the age of mass production. I love these boots - most especially since I have suffered from foot issues my whole life (born with club feet, many bones had to be broken and reset) - warm, tough, yet somehow deeply soothing when laced around my dodgy feet. Why do you need to take them on and off, David? I put mine on in the morning and take them off at bedtime. Doormats and even, in extremis, bootscrapers remove any need for indoor removals. Merrells are the choice of my eldest...but he is still firmly ensconced as a trainer wearer (I would bake my own boots out of old tyres before enduring those sweaty Nike/Adidas/New Balance monstrosities near my tender footsies) and Merrells still have a faint youth cachet and make rather good walking sandals (although tbh, walking and sandals are not concepts which really go together in my eyes). Ah, sadly Hunter have gone the way of the old Dr.Martens and are essentially a fashion accessory for festival wear - not made in the UK anymore either...but still notable for bringing out a half height version which Mr.Camps prefers....See Moreprairie_rose
