Just went to the grocery store

and as we left a woman followed us out by less than 10 feet in a black tank top with obvious measles spots all over her front back and arms. Then she walked over to the Girl Scout cookie table and talked to them. I am still on 18 different medicines and not completely well. We came home and washed up carefully. There is also a large assisted living complex next door to the market and most of the people there shop at that market being brought over by the drivers. It is also across the street from the largest church in the area and many people from there stop in and shop after the Wednesday evening meeting with their children of all ages . I called the store and explained what I had seen to a supervisor and told him to check with his employees to see who had dealt with her and take appropriate action. Worried am I.

That is really the ultimate selfish, uncaring attitude on her part. I wish you a speedy recovery with no adverse effects.

I really like your green star. The Sharry Baby is a beautiful healthy looking plant. I'd have snapped one of those up too! I keep trying SB, but haven't had any luck growing/blooming one. I've got one growing now, fingers crossed, maybe blooms this next spring. Happy growing. Sheila :)

I still had lots of food in the house, but DH told me to go ahead and stock up since he'll probably be on the road for 5-6 weeks this time and the immediate future of our para-transit sytem is iffy at best right now due to budget cuts. (We won't know its fate until March 19. On the 22nd, we'll either have it or it's immediately gone.) So, hey, I'm no dummy. I stocked up. Trader Joes - greek yogurt eggs Cheddar cheese bacon almonds frozen haibut frozen green beans frozen mixed veggies frozen mixed peppers frozen naan butter canned diced tomatos quinoa mustard Regular Grocery Store bread Tortillas raisins black beans lentils canned tuna (my lucky day - albacore at .79 a can!) 5# chicken breasts (on sale at .99 a pound!) 2# pork bag of baking potaotes 2 cucumbers 3 onions 2 gree peppers # asparagas quart strawberries 1/2 gal milk canned mixed fruit # bananas # mushrooms garlic limes flour olive oil freezer bags pinto beans # coffee 2 boxes tea bags On the clearance shelf, we found organic pommegranate juice, V8, cherry juice and peanuts for $1.00 eash. The store isn't going to carry them anymore. So we got two each of those. And I had coupons for two free bottles of laundry soap that expire at the end of the month, so I got those now. Total - too much. OTOH, I'm set for another 4-5 weeks except highly perishable items like lettuce or milk. (Althogh I have some canned milk if I really need it.) That doesn't include the things we get for DH to take on the road as I consider his road supplies separate from my grocery budget.

I try to shop for groceries every two weeks. I may go back for milk or some small thing in between. But I try to plan and get 95% of what we need for two weeks. That's food as well as household items, cat food, detergent, etc. So I buy some things in bulk, I have some cabinets in the garage very handy for the extra. Next weekend, I'll be getting into the extra and moving it to the pantry. Yesterday was my day. First stop is always BJ's wholesale club. I will typically spend about $225 there. I take a 50 qt cooler for frozen things, b/c I don't come straight home. Then I go to Kroger, where I get another full cart and spend another $225 (gotta love that discount shopper card, also saves me on gas, BTW). So we're in about $550 every two weeks, and it takes me about 3 hours whole trip. With the back seat folded down, it fills the back of the van. It's the unloading and putting it all away that wears me out. Usually, the boys are home and I just back up to the garage and say "If you wanna eat, do your job!" LOL. That's one reason I go on a weekend, not when they're at school! But it does take a while to get it all situated in frig/pantry/garge. Heck, by then I'm too tired to cook dinner! ;o) I am feeding a family of 6, pack 3 kids' lunches and snacks every day (and often my own, too), and two of those kids are teen boys. So we go through the food. People are always asking me about our grocery bill/habits. It's about the only household duty I am organized about. School supplies I stock up on in August and keep a shelf of extras. So if a kid needed a folder, new box of crayons... there is stock already here.

We took a little drive yesterday to a cemetery about 100 miles from here so I could look at 3 rose bushes there. Coming back, stopped in Huntsville to go to the HEB (grocery chain) there. I knew from past visits they have the fresh squeezed orange juice I like, but the smaller one, more local to us....as in 20 miles away, does not. Not only did they have the orange juice, but also toilet paper. Wow. Perhaps this means a return to civilization.

I also posted this on Hot Topics having posted here first not realizing where I was. There has been a lot of discussion there about immunization before the switch and I was just trying to vent to some that would be up on the situation. I received some good information there and thanked them. I am glad now that I posted here also and have the support here. Here is what I posted on HT this morning....

Thanks for the support, explanations of possibilities and concern. Since
I live 10 minutes north of Disneyland on the same street and switch
buses on the corner of the place every time I go to the VA so I am a bit
concerned about the whole situation. I had a rough day with a trip
there yesterday and used the customer go-cart to do the shopping at the
store. I try to walk as much as possible to get my endurance back up but
was tired last night and when I saw her my adrenalin kicked in then I
was just completely exhausted and really pissed. Was posting on the
adrenalin rush last night finding it hard to believe anyone would appear
in public, in a grocery store, with anything that even looked like
something that is so prevalent in the news and so close to the primary
place of discovery.

Certainly hope you and others do not contact the measles due to the inconsiderate action of one person. Staying at home when obviously showing s/s of the measles must require more concern for others than she had. Vaccinations are bad, eh...SMH!

Don, hope you don't have any ill effects to whatever it was that female in the grocery store has and was exposing to others.

I am constantly amazed at 'man's inhumanity to man'. There is a simple solution that begins "Do unto others, . . . . .". I think most of us know the rest of it.

Keeping my fingers crossed that you did not pick up anything from anybody. People can be so inconsiderate. My husband has an immune deficiency and in a way I am glad that at the moment he is not going here and there to pick up whatever is going around.

Again, thanks for the concern and well wishes. On further speculation and info/experience supplied by the posters on HT it quite likely she did not hve the measles but some other problem that looks like it but not contagious. should know for sure in a week or so. will let you guys know what develops.
