Have you made sweet & sour Indian lemon pickles?

I have made north African preserved lemons several times, but the Indian lemon pickle recipe I am following is new to me, and I want to be sure it is safe. This recipe is different from most achar recipes due to the large amount of sugar. I am just looking for advice from those who have experience making these types of pickles. There is nothing on the NCHP website, and there are not master preservers in my community.

4 lemons

2 cups sugar

2 tbsp each: salt, turmeric, cayenne

They are sitting in a sunny spot for two weeks.
