I see they are authored by GW members. Thank you everyone. You are my heros!

I just got the Morning Glory with purples and it is my favorite at the moment.

Does anyone remember the beautiful Daffodil Style from GW? Could anyone recreate that style...just for fun. I really liked it too.

Just wondering.

I remember there was a problem with it for me. As you can see, the print was over the daffodils in places and wasn't supposed to be...or so I was told.

I was also surprised to learn today, that only the folks using stylish see the B and I characters to make things BOLD, or in italics, or in bold italics. Cool.

I see they've added some new themes to the choices. I'm using the GW Houzz colors one. With it you can change the size of the font, style of the font and the colors of the background and such. You will need to find a list of color codes but that is easy enough with doing a simple google search.

The daffodil is cute but I wouldn't want the flower behind the text, it does need a text box added...imho anyway.

I'm kind of enjoying the challenge, it's making me use my brain a bit...LOL!

OK so why isn't the CODE working for bold?

Never mind, I just noticed that it's now added to the edit choices!

ok, i think i am understanding now what we are doing. I took the time and am trying to write your names down and what you are looking for! what is hindering me from naming a garden is i am in the process of KNOWING what plants are named for, or even their name. I never realized that there was a coral salvia. I only knew salvia as salvia. Petunia as a red petunia or white. So i am in the process of knowing the names........sigh. Am excited though i love blue, not a pastel tone, but a vibrant one. I would love a blue garden. BLUE BLUE BLUE!!!! i love salvias of all colors. i love intense colors veru intensly! I love dark sunflowers, i love dark purples for the bloom of most any species. If i ask for daylillies, will i get seeds or small plants? I didnt think seeds was a logical choice, for wouldnt they take years to mature. Teach me! I have red fountain grass to trade, but that is bulky. I also have purple iris but they are also bulbs, not seeds.

I like the fact that old threads drop off, although I'm not sure that one year or a maximum post count are the best ways to do it. Real old threads often contain dated material that no longer accurately reflects current conditions. And then there are the bozos that just have to reply to something posted years ago resurrecting yet another dead thread. This happens all to often on the other boards. I don't personally care for vBulletin bulletin boards. I much prefer phpbb. There are a couple of things I think really need attention in the GW board software. The search function plain sucks, and we should be able to edit and/or delete our posts for at least a few hours. By the way, this isn't a free service. It is advertiser supported. There is a big difference between that particular business model and free.

Firefox and Chrome STYLISH add on to change the print and background

I'm always hesitant to download FF add-ons because I've had some cause browsing issues at certain websites. I'm curious about Stylish though, I've seen that you can change to some predetermined style that someone has created and I'm not interested in doing that with my page. All I want to do is change the font to something more pleasing to the eye and change the background color to tone it down a bit. Can I do that with Stylish? I've looked at a few videos and all I see is some format choices that I really don't want to use. Could someone tell me how to use Stylish to make my own choices of fonts and background colors?

Thank you.. Not too nosy, since I mention it plenty of times, here and there.. I was born in Kiev, Ukraine, the former Soviet Union.. as much as I felt I've moved on-we left when I was 18..this Maidan revolution in 2014 and everything that's followed was hard on me..you see, my childhood home overlooked Maidan( that was of course called differently, and I must say looked much much nicer then..it's like these urban planners compete how to make it uglier, really)..anyway when you see the place you were born, saw from your window, walked every day.. place that was your home..burning..you suddenly understand that you didn't move too far.. and no, you can't predict, until something like this happens. I really thought it's part of me, of my past, integral part, but not a home anymore. Israel is my home. we moved to Israel.. I spent there many years..then my ex got transferred here..I was hysterical and didn't want to go yet I went..very young kids, family..you know.. then they transferred us back I was so happy still wasn't a walk in the rose garden..as much as my previous employers loved me-they didn't hold space for me..:) so looking for new job and all that..you do start again, even if you left for some time and went back you still adjust. even when everything around you spells home. And Israel has this thing about it..you change, it changes, yet it's the only place on Earth that gives meaning to me being there, besides just being with the people I love anywhere else I won't say it's a Garden of Eden, yes? it can be downright scary..the bombings and all-I wasn't there(actually came to take care of my Mom, also in 2014- but they didn't get to Haifa then..was too far for their missiles..)..but I lived in Jerusalem through two intifadas..you understand that every day is a dying day(c)..yet you know..you continue..because -where else? and you have to stay human. there are two sorts of death, right? This is a very strange, magical place. People go crazy there. We even have "The Jerusalem Syndrome"..:) that some tourists get..need to be send to a hospital for some time, take meds you know..they start thinking they are Messiahs.. It's too old and seen it all. Jerusalem I mean. It doesn't care about you. And the sky is amazingly high there. But you can't stop caring about it. When I'm in Israel and it so happens I didn't go to Jerusalem-I feel I didn't fully go.. so.. sorry about the big lyrical off top..when my ex's bosses decided to send us here again I was very sad but less panicky..I thought "ok they're going to send us back again, as they did the first time" and then everything unfolded differently so..as they say in Russian fairy tales "for longer for shorter"..for now I'm here, and listen, I love it too. It's been many years already..I lived on two coasts..I think 7 years(altogether) on the East, and probably 7 on the West? goodness..time really flies I love West Coast much more first, it reminds me of Israel. The sky is high here too..:) and other things second, I'm plainly happier. on some important accounts but I will always want to go back If somebody translated Joseph Brodsky's poem(no.. he never been to Israel and never wanted to, and didn't feel any connection as per his interviews.. but since he was a genius poet he just knew certain things I guess...that's a poem about a desert)..in short if I find a good translation-I'll post it..the link I mean ok..that was really long..:)

very cool, i love that one with the daffodils =)
i tried that one out cause it was so bright and cheerful...but agree- it is a little harder to read. it's quite lovely thouh, love the colors.

now, i am done messing with the ones i made.

got all the little bugs out, that i could find, and changed them a little, just mellowed out some of the font sizes...cause i made them kinda huge....anywho maybe i will post up a new thread somewhere...to let people know they are out there and usable...

i made a few that i was trying to create sort of a universal one...where all you have to do is change the picture, basically plug in your own image. those are the last ones i did called "backgrounds" and also another one with the morning glories.

it might be a bit intimidating, but if you install them, go to add ons (in your browser), click edit...it brings up the code. if you scroll down to where theres a web address, and erase that one then put your own pictures web address in, it will show that image in the background.

and with the text box defined with a different color, so its not just on top of the image. if you felt bold, you might even take that one (the daffodils) and then go look for where the text box color is, figure out the number of the color you want....and then change that number to whatever color you want.

you can also use them on top of each other.

the simple font and color changing one that molanic made will help a lot with the colors of links, size of fonts, and such. so you can start with which ever one you like best, then install the color changing one to add the text boxes, the font size...etc...and it will be both at once, and work together. yeah that would be the easier way to get the daffodil one to have more variation.

oo and btw you dont have to look the codes up, the box pops up where you can move the cursor to show different colors and then automatically puts in the right number...

i just messed around with loadin them all on top of each other and switching between them, and it all worked great..... they all looked nice even with two or three of them installed.

with the daffodils one, i notice theres a backdrop on it now, so its not right on top of the image. when i have both the one i am using and the daffodils, i get the same colors i put on mine, but the daffodil picture. well just checking it out!

if you do alter one, it would be best to save it with a new name. i guess if some one changes it and saves it...it will change it for all of them....

LEILA - it was you? who made these backgrounds for us??? Well really... I cannot cannot thank you enough. That was the deal-breaker for me. I was outta here with that houzz takeover... but then jasmineroses4u supplied the link to morning glory... and suddenly I could stay at gardenweb (i can even - happily - still call it that with the morning glory background!) after all. Lurked here for nigh on 6 years... was gutted to have to leave, but for me the bother was mainly about being bombarded with Houzz pretension/rubbish. So your background solved my biggest drama about staying in one shot. Thanks so much hey? You're awesome!

i made a few of them, but Richard (chuggerguy) , who posted earlier on this thread got me going on it =)

i
installed the morning glory background (he made it originally), and
then i opened it up and altered it....kept working on it to change the
settings....but totally i agree, this helps a lot. molanic also made a
few, and made the nifty color changing simple one...he said he would work on a small one for tablets....

but then i got on a roll and made 5 more =)
well
it was easy, once i did one, cause for the most part they are the
same....with different pics...so anywho i made a bunch in a row, several
related "morning glory" ones...based on the same original.

I'm loving the daffodils, and yes, like them best without the daffs behind the print.

yeah you should try it! it is really much easier than it could seem.

in the last ones i did, i was thinking i could make one so that all you do is change the web address, and it would show whatever background you choose...the earlier ones, like the "morning glory" original one, theres two web address inside the code, one with the morning glory, one with the back drop. if you open up the code and search those out and change them, it would be a whole new theme =)

o one other thing to mention is that .png image format is best for this purpose....so you might have to create a .png file by opening it and then saving it as .png

.jpg isnt as good at resizing easily...it can be done but you have to create the right size
