That was me. I was hung up on not drilling holes in brand new perfect tile. I planned to use a straight tension rod. I bought one. I talked myself into thinking it was the smart way to go. Then I bought a Moen single curved rod from BB&B and figured out exactly where it would go. I let my guy drill holes in the tile (I couldn't look).

It is perfection. There were no shattering tiles. The curve is subtle but it really, really does open up the space in a shower/tub combo. I doubted the difference it would make, but I'm a believer.

You say you want a double rod, so I assume you will be hanging a curtain and a liner from a tension rod with extra weight. Have you considered a single rod with a water-resistant cloth curtain? Keeps it simple and also reduces the weight.

I've had my rod for 7 months so it's too soon to say if rust will ever be a problem. If that happens, I will replace it with a new one. I like it that much.

I'll second what Linelle said. We purchased a single curved Moen rod online for our guest bathroom. Ours is not in tile, so we were able to install ourselves without any issues. It's extremly solid and does not dip in the middle as other curved rods have done for us. We also use a cloth liner along with the shower curtain. Ours has been in for 9 months and looks brand new.

nh, we must have the same rod. No, it doesn't dip or sag one bit. Good and solid. I fretted about having a telescoping, adjustable rod, but I don't have any problem with the ball-bearing rings skipping over the join.

So, now I'm rethinking keeping my telescoping shower bar. Which I got from Restoration Hardware 10 years ago at least. No rust very tight but straight. Not sure with a 32" tub I need the curved. That would be the main reason. This one telescopes very tightly at the very end so there isn't a joint to deal with.

ceezeecz, when I was trying to talk myself out of using a curved rod and drilling tile, I figured I didn't need the extra space in my 32" wide tub. I'm small and I could easily get away with it. But the curved rod opens up the space in a remarkable way that you wouldn't expect with a few extra inches. It's just so much nicer.

Whatever you choose (using the straight one you already have or getting a curved one), the joint just doesn't impede the smooth movement of the shower curtain rings.

Linelle, thanks for the input. The one I have now works totally smoothly. But if a curved piece is that much better I should consider it. I've had this one over ten years with zero rust, so I sure don't want to change it for something less durable.

Also I'm moving from a 29" tub to a 30" tub

Or a curtain track in the ceiling. A few forum members did that in the past.

The only problem I see with the overhead/ceiling solution is with a 9-ft. ceiling that's extra visual clutter.
