What makes this "busy" Houzz kitchen work?
Comments (36)What bothers me about that kitchen is the weird angle of the island and the placement of the post. I did not go to the link, but the mix of colors and materials isn't a huge deal breaker for me. The varying distance between island and perimeter is, though. The bookshelves are easily rolled out of there to accommodate more seating and to erase cookbook clutter. Not a big deal. Wouldn't have been a big deal to construct one that matched the island either, and make it removable, too. As for lighting, photographers' lighting, followed by whatever adjustments were made in website, following monitor issues, and who knows how the colors really look?...See MoreHouzz - things we would like please
Comments (85)Couple things that I find helpful on other discussion forums I visit: If you hover your pointer over the thread title, a little box pops up w/ a 'preview' of the post. Helps to know what the post is actually about, saves time opening threads w/ titles like 'Help'. Also, next to the thread title is a button that will take you to the first unread post of the thread (it doesn't appear if there are no new posts). That way, you know if there are new comments and it saves time not having to scroll through the whole thread looking for the last post read....See MoreThe white background
Comments (23)Mine is a gravy boat full of wine reduction, but made small it also looks like a carnival mask, which I think is a great representation of me. :) FOAS: "Oh yeah they're huge, but we must be big enough for them to have wanted to take us over, no?" Well, we used to be owned by NBC. I thought it was nice that we were going to a smaller company that might not use us as a Bikini Atoll for intrusive advertising testing (dancing baby and green underline style). One thing to remember is that any time you Google a household question, especially for kitchens, bathrooms and appliances, GW dominates the top results. This is new since I joined, and I've only been a member since 2007. They changed some of the ranking criteria. You can't buy that kind of placement. In the last 3-4 years, a trend that started well before that solidified, and people were crossposting between Houzz and GW all over the place. Not in CF (where we don't even seem to cross much with Chowhound), but all over the remodelling forums. It's a natural fit which should drive traffic to Houzz, and give added value to their members. If they can keep the stalwarts after the transition and growing pains, we'll be providing them with tons of top quality content and they only have to pay for the servers and gnomes. Re the background, it depends on your screen. The light gray reads as white on my monitor and iPad. Additionally, there's a lot more white space for the people who have eliminated ads. If you're bothered by glare and use ad blockers, you might try allowing ads for this site. :)...See MoreFirefox and Chrome STYLISH add on to change the print and background
Comments (13)I'm always hesitant to download FF add-ons because I've had some cause browsing issues at certain websites. I'm curious about Stylish though, I've seen that you can change to some predetermined style that someone has created and I'm not interested in doing that with my page. All I want to do is change the font to something more pleasing to the eye and change the background color to tone it down a bit. Can I do that with Stylish? I've looked at a few videos and all I see is some format choices that I really don't want to use. Could someone tell me how to use Stylish to make my own choices of fonts and background colors?...See Morejerijen
