I don't do facebook. I don't text. Gone is the warm feeling of friends and family and the ability we had to laugh at ourselves and share our everyday feelings of frustrations and happiness. I feel this is not headed in the same direction. Such disappointment. Anyway, Happy Valentines Day to the old Garden Web gang. Barb_roselover_IN

As I have said many times, you are spelling my name wrong. It is not barab_roselover_in. it is barb_roselover_in. This seems like the government insurance website. Too bad.

Barb, Happy Valentine's Day. I also don't text, don't tweet or twitter, don't do Facebook. I agree that this is much different, although I'm trying to adapt. Thank goodness I have email addresses for many friends that I don't see here. I agree that it seems much less personal.

Hello: Yes, Carmen is in heaven now, for that I am sure. Carmen did not, that I know of have a digital web space for garden photographs. She was so busy these last few years starting a business. Carmen had a gorgeous fenced in vegetable garden hiding in her back yard. You would first enter a gate from either the driveway side, or the other side of her home, and enter into this very sunny, and flowerful back yard living area. When you entered on the right there were some camellias, and a taller tree overhead. To the left her hydrangea selection started, and Carmen had a beautiful selection that bloomed from late spring into late summer. When I was last there, she also had a tree dahlia ready to bloom. It was a suprise from a trade and she was delighted to behold such unusual beauty for our area. On the other side of the hydrangea area were knock out roses along a short walk. This walk curved around the back wall of the home and ended at the other garden entrance and a HUGE stand of giant calla lilies which were in constant bloom except in our coldest months. Along the neighboring fenceline there was a sweet of September Charm anemone and Carmen said you could always count on a mass of pink blooms Sept. 1st, this fed into a cottage garden selection of plants that also attracted hummingbirds. This area moved into a slightly shady area and then the vegetable garden. Everything encircled a nice expanse of green lawn. Carmen's front garden was under quite dense shade, but being such an excellent gardener, Carmen filled it with unusual selections of shade garden plants, many of which had very colorful bloom or leaf variegation/color. This description is the best I can do to give you an idea of Carmen's lovely garden. GGG

What a beautiful picture Julia. Hope you have a great holiday season, too.Mine is off to a bad start already. One of my daughters sent me to the eye Doctor to have my eyes checked and fitted for new glasses for Christmas, I have been wearing these I have for at least 10 yrs, and have got to where I cant read the paper with them, so she was going to get me some new ones for Christmas. Well, the eye doctor wouldn't prescribe new glasses. Said I have Cataracts on both eyes,and right one being the worse,and wanted to schedule me to go have them removed right away, I told him not so fast dr,I never rush into anything without thinking it over awhile. He asked me 3 times if I have had a stroke and 3 times I told him no I have not..I guess because I was walking with a cane. don't know, but he sure was fixed on the stroke idea.he has sure scared me to death with this surgery idea. and especially when he says they don't put you to sleep for it,as it only takes about 15 minutes.My daughter was in there listening to him and said later he acts mighty queer to her, like he might be on some thing. I have no idea, but, I want to ask questions about any surgery on my eyes before anything is done.he did tell me I could go blind if its not done,and that scares me even more,as all I think about now is spring and seeing my daylily blooms again and being on the forum to see every one elses, too. Normally, police from around Mississippi come to the coast during the first few hours after the storm. Because of the intensity of Katrina they had to stay and help in the recovery of their own communities. Wed night. State police from Alabama arrived to help. By sunday policemen from Florida cities were helping. When I was heading home the day after Katrina. I was not alone on I-10. Thank you to all our friends who came to our aid. The police, the fire departments, the search and rescue groups, the military, the power workers. Thanks you all. You were a god sent.

Barb, Sorry you're having problems. Have you tried going into Your Houzz and changing your publicly displayed name in the public profile?

Barb, if you go to Your Houzz, Edit Profile you can change the spelling as we see it. Under Account Information is Profile Information where you can change the spelling of your name for display. Be sure to click update before closing.

I don't do Facebook either, I haven't felt like I've had time to invest in any more being in front of this computer - I barely get everything done in a day as it is. But I'd hate to leave or lose my GW friends so I'm giving this a chance....

I'm right there with you - and I feel like the picture of the cat clinging to the screen door with the words "HANG IN THERE!!!" overhead. And to continue in that vein, I keep mumbling something about "old dog new trick" about myself. I've always enjoyed the cooking group so much I would hate to see it falter just because of an altered screen name (which I also have - but hay, close enough.....) and a different format. There were changes to the GW as well.....

I would like to include my thanks to everyone, who with such kind patience, have tried to give up-dates and information with details how to use the site, and those who register concerns and the actions taken by Houzz to make changes. I'm still able to log on and give information, and that's what I feel is the important bit.

Once you figure out where the forum category list is, then things really aren't all that different. It's still a discussion only the way it's laid out is different. You can still start threads and answer threads. The same people are still here. If you go over to The Kitchen Table discussion board, you will find a bunch of threads with people discussing the changes and how to fix some of the issues and how to find some things that you may be having trouble finding how to do. I think once everyone gets the hang of navigating this place, it will then just be a matter of it becoming familiar, just like the old boards were.

Hi - a neat feature I discovered is that if you click your username (either in your post or under the 'Your Houzz' link @ top right), you go to a page of all the discussions you've participated in, ranked by latest activity, so you can review the latest comments. I strongly recommend exploring the site - it's got some handy elements.

& the homepage has a seemingly endless slideshow @ the top of nice home & landscape designs w/ links to the companies' & photographers' websites - like paging through House Beautiful magazine...

The little flag to the right is good to report quickly nasty posts, spam posts.

Annoying green pop ups are gone (on my PC).
