Which Oil For Stovetop Popcorn?

I see a lot of recommendations for the use of coconut oil when making stovetop popcorn. Coconut oil has a smoke point of 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Popcorn needs 400 - 460 degrees to pop. If that is the case coconut oil doesn't seem like a good option. So how does one use coconut oil without hitting the smoke point? If not coconut oil, what oil do you use? I can't seem to get the corn to pop without first cranking up the heat (gas stove) and then almost always hitting the smoke point of the oil..
