I could be wrong but it sounds to me that you were clicking on "KITCHEN" up at the top of the page? You need to click on Advice over toward the right of your screen between "stories" and the picture of a shopping cart. Then when that opens up you will see in the very far left side of the page links to get to the different GW forums categories. Hope that helps! Navigating this new board is really the hardest part and once you figure out where things are, it's just a matter of getting used to a different layout.

You really don't even have to click "Advice". You can just bookmark this page to see the list of forums. Or, if you only want to see the KT, bookmark this page. And if your browser is set up to "auto fill", you can even just start typing ths and so on, and it'll pop up and you click on it.

No, I was not clicking on Kitchen's. I was trying to log in though the email they sent me and it was not working right. I have no problem coming here as I have always had it bookmarked to go to the Kitchen Table. I just could not log in.

I had a similar hard time. I tried for 2 days to log in after my account was confirmed, but I kept getting rejected. I finally wrote to Houzz and after that I was able to get here. I keep this connected, because I don't want to go through that again.

I don't care for it at all either.

I'm glad it's finally working for you, and sorry you had a transition more rough than some of us. Glad too that you kept at it and are here ;)

Give it and you a few days, there were lots of groans and growing pains but they have been great working with us to improve is. I and many others are really liking it now. Very easy to use. Still room for improvement and learning. It's better than the alternative which was going to be bye bye to garden Web.

Well that's kind of why I was afraid to clean my cookies because I thought maybe it would be an issue logging back in with new passwords and stuff but as it turned out, I was able to log right back in without an issue. Sheeew!

But I decided to wait and read what others have done instead of getting frustrated by jumping right in and trying stuff myself. So, a big thank you for those who bravely endured the learning curve and wrote what they found to make it easier for the rest of us.

Sue, I had the same issues as you in trying to sign on. I went round and round dozens of times. Finally I was on, having done nothing different than I had previously done dozens of times.

I guess I can be called an old fogey because as I see it, they have taken something straight forward and simple and complicated it by adding a bunch of unneeded technology just because they can. Like what has happened to cell phones that just make and receive calls, nothing else.

What would be the point in Houzz buying GardenWeb if they didn't intend to keep the forums? Houzz didn't have any forums, did it? So it's not like it was trying to kill the competition if they didn't keep the forums.

Gardenweb had become part of a failed dot-com business that was acquired by NBC in 2006. A good guess on the transfer would be that NBC either viewed GW as being non-core from a strategic standpoint or not adequately profitable.

Neither Houzz nor NBC issued a press release about the transfer, so it's possible that it was not for much money, if any, and neither side saw the transaction as significant. Sites like Houzz make efforts to acquire more "users", and in the case of GW, to hope they migrate and begin to look at the core parts of the original Houzz site. They'll expect some amount of drop off.

I know what you mean Lindsey but I just don't understand how FB can replace discussion boards. On FB you can't get help and answers to How To questions. I do understand and I know that FB HAS taken away people but for what reason, I don't get it! What is so darn fantastic and helpful about FB? Maybe I'm not using it to its fullest potential? All I see is a bunch of silly stuff friends and family post. The groups that I have joined seem unused and not in the least bit helpful. Apparently I'm missing something! I find discussion boards infinitely more helpful and entertaining than FB ever was!
