If the "error" is more than 15% of the frieze board width (the flat piece below the cove molding) then the "follow the slope" fix will look bad. More than 15% (3/8" in 2 1/2") will be very noticeable. Then the better solution is having the cove/crown customized with a matching strip attached to the top edge, then neatly scribed to the ceiling contour. These conditions need to be observed/noted/corrected in the framing stage so an appropriate remedy can be worked out ahead of time. Adding a little scribe strip here and there to cover those shims is really the worst solution; I'll go out on a limb and say it's no solution at all. Casey

Several reasons not to do a beach entry: they cut significantly into the size of the pool. Unless you have a huge backyard and bank account, most of the pool will be the beach entry. Pebbletec waterlines will calcify easily if you live in an area with hard water, creating an ugly ring. We didn't do a tile waterline, just Pebbletec all the way to the coping, and are really sorry we did that. There is a grey ring around the pool that won't come off. SDKath, I totally get why they stopped warranting over the waterline, if we tried to clean ours it would chip the PT right off with the calcium ring. I am sure PT got hit with a lot of warranty claims because of this exact thing. It was our own dumb fault for not going with the tile line, so I would never blame PT, but it is a good warning for new pool owners. The biggest reason against a beach entry is that it is an open invitation to birds and other critters as a watering hole and toilet. If you don't keep cleaning it constantly, you will have a bird poop pool and many floating corpses. Icky. I love the look of a beach entry but know that more people than not regret their choice for the reasons I gave. Here are some searches on beach entries on this site, there are a lot of threads about this. Our pool designer and this website helped us SO much in many decisions including the beach entry which is what I had my heart set on too! I am so happy with what we chose, we use the swim-out shelf most, just for laying loungers on and being half in the pool, or sitting on a chair with just your feet wet. Most people choose a swim-out shelf (aka baja shelf, tanning ledge) which has all the good points of a beach entry but none of the negatives. Ours is 18" deep and we love it, some people have a 6" one. I would look into a shelf while you are planning. As for your color choices, I love both of them. We chose Caribbean Blue, your choices give the same color but a little lighter. I like the green hues in water colors, Sandy Beach was our second choice but because we got married in the Caribbean we chose it for personal memories! Thanks, kimberlykb, for the bump. I know how hard it is to offer specific color advice without attached pics, so I didn't anticipate lots of replies. I held out hope that some might be familiar enough with these paint colors to comment on whether they saw them as compatible. We've had to move out of our home because all the bedrooms had to be emptied for ww/carpet removal and installation of new wood floors. We only get in the house at night to check on progress. Between the lack of natural light and the disarray on the main floor because of construction, I haven't been able to get helpful new photos to post. But one thing I discovered just today is that the P&F door sample I have is not the close match to White Dove that I thought it was when I matched it up against the paint chip. When I put it up against larger samples it reads closer to BM White Chocolate. I much prefer the White Chocolate with Simply White for trim. They both read warm white to me and seem to work better than White Dove w/ Simply White. White Dove's grey tones looked a bit dingy when they were side by side. I'm still liking Carrington Beige next to the cab and granite samples and plan to use it throughout the main floor instead of another white. Would love to hear if anyone here has used Carrington Beige.

Speaking of coffee mugs... I often wish I'd seen the little shallow shelves that some people tuck under their uppers for that purpose...Or maybe made room to hang mugs. Just something else to think about and confuse the issue, maybe. ;-) I know that this is a whole 'nother option, and seems to fly in the face of my preference for the double door, but if you want to embrace the open shelves and use them more, which I can see happening because of my own experience, I could seriously consider a 12" door (hinging on the left, knob on the right) and 24" of open shelves from it to corner. (Long sentence) But again, it depends on how much open vs closed storage you want in that corner.
