Anyone else not liking this "new and improved" houzz thingy?
Comments (85)I'm with prairiemoon2 on the privacy thing. I've already had the creepy experience of houzz emailing me to one email address when I signed up with a different one, and I'm not pleased. I hate the "like" buttons - they seem totally counter to the idea of people actually communicating with each other in a way that goes hand in hand with not being able to reply directly to a comment ("click 'like' instead!"). Bottom line: This new format really represents everything I hate about the social internet (intrusiveness, the feeling of your every move being tabulated and tracked, your method of interaction being subtly manipulated, etc.), most of which GW was blissfully free from in, as slowjane put it, its "web 1.0" way. So, I guess we were lucky for a while, and now I'll either adjust or be gone. And fyi, I did use the like buttons in this thread, but only as feedback for the houzz staff in case they're paying attention to people's reactions to the new site : )...See MoreConvo: a new dog for us and testing Houzz/GW
Comments (28)What a sweetie. I love the way she looks at you. Such a cute pooch. I also like the idea of putting " convo" or "OT" at the beginning of non-deco threads....See MoreHOUZZ, your new format SUCKS BIG TIME!
Comments (108)While I will admit that some do seem have difficulties navigating or posting (I think most of that is due to a less than ideally compatible device or browser) I do not find the new format any more difficult to work with or use or navigate than it was before. Different, yes.........but no less user friendly (in many ways it is more user-friendly). And I think some are just a lot more resistant to change than others :-) As an old time GW user (here since almost from the start in the late 90s with Spike), the site has gone through a lot of changes over the years and with different ownership, much good and some not so good. It took me just a couple of days to become comfy with the new format and I have no issues with it now. My primary complaint is with cross posting. While it is NOT a requirement, many seem to think it is so you get threads posted to 3 completely unrelated forums. And those new folks entering directly from the Houzz side of the platform with gardening questions do not realize there are several dozens of gardening forums and just post in the Gardens or Landscape Design forum (the only GW forum that shows up in the Houzz topics listing as well as GW) and I find that very irritating. The LD forum is frequently innundated with completely inappropriate questions!! And I don't find it to be any less of a "community" than it was before. Depending on what forums one frequents, all the same old regular posters are present for the most part with the same friendly interchange and bantering. 11otis, if you scroll up to the start of this thread, you will find that it is posted to the Soils, Compost and Mulch forum in addition to a couple of others. Click on that forum title and it will take you directly to ALL the threads on that forum. Really couldn't be much easier............. :-)...See MoreSorry, I went MIA (and this new Houzz format sucks!)
Comments (14)It's certainly been a learning curve! Things I thought I'd never do, I ended up doing (I treated every plant remaining with everything I had- anti-bacterials, fungicides, insecticides, miticides, etc., thus they will remain indoors for quite some time, so I don't hurt any beneficial critters). Eventually, I'll replace what was lost, but for now, I am grateful for what has survived! Thanks for the empathy, and again, I am sorry for just disappearing. It was a stressful ordeal, combined with the everyday stress of life, and I needed to just get away from it all. I also made my Facebook private and deleted everyone, including groups. No offense to anyone; it had nothing to do with the plant issues. There were just a bunch of people I didn't know trying to friend me; people with Ebay issues were contacting me on FB instead of Ebay; and some random strangers (no one ya'll know- hopefully) were asking for things they should not have been asking for (freebie plants were not the only thing asked for...ewww). I don't mind chatting here and sharing photos here, and will continue to do so (when I have the time), but from now on, my Facebook will be off-limits, for privacy reasons, and for my sanity. As soon as I am confident that my plants don't have any further issues, I will replace my favorites that were lost, and eventually, I may start trading. I don't think I'll be selling any time soon (to busy with my "real job"), but perhaps, in the future?...See Morewhgille
