There's a chain icon right beneath the message writing box, to the right of Photo and Video, with the word "Link". Click it and you get a dialog box asking you for the text and URL of your link. It's an inline, embedded link in the text, rather than a separate line at the bottom like on GW. It seems to work fine here, but the link text and links weren't showing up in another forum. Thanks for recommending NoSquint. I was looking for something like that, which was site specific, a few months ago. I'll give it a gander. :)

Okay, that's really cool! With NoSquint you can adjust the size of the text independently from the size of the graphics! Way cool tool!!

I use Chrome and I can't find "Changing Colours." When I search for it at Extensions, I get High Contrast, Deluminate, and Care Your Eyes [sic] as the top 3, but even scrolling through all that come up, I can't find "Changing Colours." My Chrome is Version 40.0.2214.111 m.

Is it perhaps Change Colors ?

The only problem with these solutions is that their changes affect EVERY webpage you go to. I guess we're just gonna have to get used to this sterile environment.

The Opera doesn't do that Fawnridge, you can set it to just GW, which I have done. I did disable the Chrome extension for that exact reason, though.

Fawnridge, that's true in most browsers if you use the Options settings. Usually you can check/uncheck whether to use the site's design or your own choices, and you can set up a hotkey to use as a toggle. The extensions and add-ons are interfaces that make that ability easier to tweak and usually include the hotkey already programmed for you. Many let you select site by site which appearance you want to use.

@fawnridge - did anyone say they were not going to change the background colors?

I haven't asked. Doubt they will, though.

Last night, I found the NoSquint add-on at Mozilla and experimented with colored backgrounds. After I made my selection, I checked several other sites that I frequent and, like Fawnridge, found that they ALL were that color (even if I had previously customized their color scheme to my liking).

Then I checked my own web site, which I had designed myself, and found that all my color choices were wiped out, and the only color was the new background color. That upset me quite a bit! I saw that Mozilla had a place for "exceptions"; however, the list seemed to require advanced coding, and it was already way too late to deal with last night, so I just removed the add-on and restored defaults instead.

Is there anybody here who has Mozilla and can walk me through the process to customize my changes for this site only? Otherwise, I guess I'm better off just leaving this painful white background.

NoSquint is really about text size. On the colors tab it says that it will override all sites.

Thanks, plllog! Glad to have confirmation that there's no way to apply color only to certain sites and not others. I don't need NoSquint for text size--there are other ways to control it, and I rarely need to make changes anyway. So then, I'm glad I removed the add-on.

I've been off looking and I found one for you. If you're willing to put in an hour's effort to learn to use it and fiddle with it to get what you want, try Color That Site! I think it's Mozilla only, but for people with other browsers, you can check. :) This allows you to change all the colors, including for graphics, text, image, background, etc., on any page, site or domain, and you can toggle back and forth with a few mouse clicks. There's a tutorial, which isn't beautiful to look at, but is very good at explaining what to do while you do it.

One thing to know about using Color That Site! to alter GW--there seem to be a whole lot of different whites/light grays in the background. That's most apparent on the listings page though, where the background for the listings is different from the background background, and the icons have different backgrounds, etc. Probably the icons do on the open threads too, but not as patchworky.

Summary: This is a very powerful tool that gives you a huge amount of control on a page by page, or site by site, basis, but in being so powerful, it also means that you have to pay more attention to it at the outset.

Thank you, plllog! I meant to say that there's no way to do it for only one site *in NoSquint*. It's awfully nice of you to help me (and others, too, I hope) find an alternative. I'll try Color That Site! ... probably tomorrow, though, as I'm in the midst of a project this afternoon.

Screen Shader can be turned off on the pages you don't want it. You do have to do it the first time you visit a page, but it remembers from then on. If you visit a ton of pages it would be a pain, but I typically only go to about a dozen sites overall, so for me it's not a big deal. My eyes and brain feel much better!
