I couldn't not use warm and cool together. All of one or the other would be too much for me. I like that balance and dynamism that mixing warm and cool brings. Here is a pic of my last house. The wall behind the photographer is EK Mustard Seed, a definitely warm color. Floors are warm. Rug and sofa are warm. Chairs and walls are cool. Artwork is a mix but mostly cool. This is all open plan connected to the kitchen where the cabinets were a mix of warm cherry and cool pale blue. I think that "all cool" or "all warm" (or all gray!) is one of those shortcuts used by people to make color selection feel easier. All of those "rules" we read are designed to make it feel easier. You are not bound by rules where color is concerned!

Funkyart, I love the SW Sea Salt, we used it in the master bath but it is very light and tends to reflect glare. SW paint is not a good bathroom paint and we ended up having to repaint as a result. We got BM to mix SW Comfort Gray (the next shade down on the strip) and it's perfection. Looks like Sea Salt but no glare. You may want to try sampling it as well. Also, beware of the SW paints in general. I know they are popular but IMHO you'll do much better with the Behr primer/paint mix and the cost is similar especially if you have to prime. I've had them mix SW colors for me as well and they were spot on.

Our house is mixed, it's mostly warm on the main level except for two rooms - main bathroom and spare bedroom which are cool tones. It looks fine. We've used the floor as the unifier - we have medium stained hardwood throughout the main level except in the two bathrooms, which are done in a warm porcelain tile with flecks of cool green. To make sure my colours were going to look okay together I sketched out a floor plan of the main level on graph paper and put the colour chips for each room in their respective spots and stood back and looked at it as a whole and I am very happy with how it looks. tess

The problem with 'neutrals' is, that you can't always mix them with each other. And one poster who has a thread about trying to make Restrained Gold Work against Latte illustrates this very well. When you have a pink-toned color in the cool zone and a warm golden toned color next to it, the effect becomes muddy and not pretty. I tried (and tried and tried) to make the grey-blue vanity tile in my master bath work with some of the warm colors that I use for my furniture upholstery and walls. I kept thinking that I could pull it off. Finally, I gave up and did my walls in a cool periwinkle blue to work with the tiles visible from the bedroom, and worked in some golds and deep pinks in my drapery fabric. The result only depressed me. I need the warm tones in my house. We broke down and spent the money to re-tile the bath. Now I can paint what I want and use the fabrics I like. If you can get your rugs and fabrics to tie in more undesirable tones at a minimum of cost, then, go for it. But keep in mind, that sometimes it's like trying to plant plants that need Full Sun in a mostly shaded area. They live, but they don't bloom. Red
