Mixing warm and cool colors

Yet again the SW paint sale comes and an inconvenient time. I am babysitting my niece (14) and nephew (11), I have an unexpected but very good job lead and I am trying to consign and donate the furniture that remains in my grandmother's house. Arggg.. but I am committed to selecting and purchasing at least some of the paint I'll need for the new house.. which means, I need to get in there and try some samples.

Currently, I am hoping to do the main living area in either wheat grass or tavern taupe -- but I am open to any cool neutral that leans to the green without being cheery-- not that i am not cheery lol.. but I prefer a more subdued color.

For the bedrooms, I am considering sea salt, hazel, or something that is close to Benjamin Moore's Mount Saint Anne.. and then coastal plains and independent gold for the bedrooms. No idea on baths or basement as yet-- I may just hold on them.

I'll be picking up samples today.. am I making a mistake by mixing warm and cool colors? Do you have a favorite in this range that I should give a try?

All suggestions appreciated.. I don't want to choose colors when I feel rushed, but I need to get this paint project moving and 40% off is a huge motivator!

No need to rush yourself. You can go in and buy the paint base you want at the sale price, and then go back and have them tint it at no charge, once you have decided.

yup, I do what bestyears said all the time. The guys at my local SW store are perfectly happy to sell me untinted gallons and then when I've made my selections I bring the untinted paint back and they add the tints, no charge.

You can mix cool and warm colors in a way that is not funky or off beat. It's best if the shades are of the same intensity, but even then that rule can be broken. But you will get more vibrancy in the room than you would by sticking to warm colors or cool colors. The closer to monochrome, the more calm a room will feel. The closer to opposites on the color wheel, the more energy the room will have. One popular color trend now is gray (cool) with yellow (warm). The risk of going with warm and cool together is doing it equally in a room so it feels noncohesive and unintentional. It's better to pick warm or cool as the predominant color and use the other as an accent.

I've paired grey walls with creams, golds and some Browns and even reds in my house too. (All warm colors). The greys I've used have brown in them too. The only time I see a problem in my house is in photos...sometimes the color looks more blue in my crappy camera photos but IRL they look good. At least in my opinion. I also found quite a few items that tie my choices together, area rugs, pillows, back splash, etc. I love these colors together

One Devoted Dame lolol. Grapefruit, I plan on curtains on the side of the room not pictured that has a bay window, Had a “swaggy” valance there that I thought looked dated so I removed it. I do like the windows on the sides of the sofa bare with the exception of the wood blinds. Prickly Pear, I understand what you’re saying about the beige perhaps being too close to the wall color. I think in real life, the darker swatch is enough of a contrast to avoid that. I’ve been convinced, I will pull the sofa forward and also the chair on the right. And yes it is a Hancock and Moore sofa. Good eye, it’s the September sofa. :) Thanks for the opinions. They’ve made me feel better.

I actually like having different feel in different rooms :) like warm and bright in living areas and cool in bedroom (which feels more restful too)

Funkyart, I love the SW Sea Salt, we used it in the master bath but it is very light and tends to reflect glare. SW paint is not a good bathroom paint and we ended up having to repaint as a result. We got BM to mix SW Comfort Gray (the next shade down on the strip) and it's perfection. Looks like Sea Salt but no glare. You may want to try sampling it as well.

Also, beware of the SW paints in general. I know they are popular but IMHO you'll do much better with the Behr primer/paint mix and the cost is similar especially if you have to prime. I've had them mix SW colors for me as well and they were spot on.
