Gisela--I think that a celery green kitchen would be a restful island in a warm "wheat" or "buff" house. Many of the houses with restrained gold or camelback throughout have svelt sage or softened green in the kitchen. Sounds beautiful.

I agree. The green and wheat/buff should look nice together. I have a green (it is a warmer green though) in my kitchen and am painting a golden tan all around it. Hold some paint swatches up to make sure you like it, but it seems like it will be great.

Although decorating references usually describe green as a cool color, you often here decorators and ordinary people refer to a "warm green." Basically, green is warm if it contains more yellow than blue and if it is not exceedingly bright.

I think that you can definitely mix. Our bedroom is a dark cool green (Behr's Painted Turtle) and the living areas are a warm brown (Behr's Belgian Sweet) and I love how it all looks together.

Our house is mixed, it's mostly warm on the main level except for two rooms - main bathroom and spare bedroom which are cool tones. It looks fine. We've used the floor as the unifier - we have medium stained hardwood throughout the main level except in the two bathrooms, which are done in a warm porcelain tile with flecks of cool green. To make sure my colours were going to look okay together I sketched out a floor plan of the main level on graph paper and put the colour chips for each room in their respective spots and stood back and looked at it as a whole and I am very happy with how it looks.

I have all wheats and sages in my house with one exception. The room that is not, is the a powder room/guest bath, which is off a sage hallway. That room is a soft gray-blue, spa-like color, but it comes off the sage hallway and the sage I have can lend itself to undertones of brownish or toward gray depending on what is being reflected off and onto it. Blue cancels green and green cancels blue, so I think that I have integrated them in a way that it is not shocking.
