Favorite source for really nice comforters... NOT duvet covers!
Comments (19)I've had good luck with Croscill bedding. I still have a comforter/skirt/shams I bought in the early 90's. (I'm picky about bedding patterns & fabric. Love that set, won't get rid of it, but tucked it into a duvet cover in guest room for a different look. Even after laundering as much as I do it's in great shape.) Last a long time, doesn't shrink or fade (whatever I bought was machine washable, like to clean my comforters frequently and don't want a whopping annual dry cleaning bill.). I'm not into shiny fabrics, so last time I did the MBR nothing from Croscill appealed to me. Most of their stock was shiny fabrics, but that was several years back. Some sources: Penney's; Bed Bath Beyond, Tuesday Morning (surprisingly good selection but you have to keep checking their shipments), occasionally TJ Maxx or Marshalls, maybe Macy's (can't remember). In the Midwest Carson Pirie Scott Dept store carries them and they are owned by Bon-Ton, so the same stock is carried under different regional dept store names. Chains operated by Bon-Ton include Bergner's, Boston Store, Carson Pirie Scott, Elder-Beerman, Herberger's, Parisian, and Younkers....See MoreGood quality duvets/comforters for a gift to my adult neiece
Comments (15)For an adult, I would get a decent quality down or down alternative comforter and then a print cover or an inexpensive print comforter. The comforter can last a very long time and go through a number of different covers as seasons or desires change. The animals and whimsy are fun, but for most adults, they would have a limited lifespan. And I am aa fan of whimsy. The Company Store and Cucddledown have nice comforters in lighter weights, but they will cost more than some you will be able to find on sale. Macy's has some on sale this weekend and likely will have at least some on sale now through the end of the year. It will become a question of selection at some point. You say she lives in a warmer climate. I am in Texas -- closer to Houston. We have the lightest weight from Company Store and only used it a couple of nights last year. It just didn't get cold enough. A down blanket or cotton quilt is plenty most of the time, but some years are different....See MoreQuestion re bed quilts/coverlets and duvets
Comments (24)My new innerspring is 14" and the low profile box spring is 5" . I don't like dust ruffles or lots of extra decorative pillows on my bed and I want the duvet or bedspread to cover both mattresses and the sleeping pillows too - the way an old fashioned bedspread does. I use the Company Store matelasse covers on my king. The King coverlet bedspread is 118 x 115 which covers the mattresses on all 3 sides and the pillows. On the queen in our guest room I use the King coverlet which is 114 x 98....See MoreWill a queen comforter fit inside a full duvet cover?
Comments (32)I’m another one who loves the look of the elaborate layered beds, and they LOOK so cozy, but I find simpler bedding to be not only easier but more comfortable. A little while back I eliminated the top sheet and now I just use a bottom sheet and a comforter in a duvet cover that gets changed with my sheets. A few sleeping pillows and I’m all set. But I admit that changing a king-sized duvet cover is a pain. With a queen size, I could kind of shake to comforter into the cover, but with a king size, I have to practically climb into the thing....See Morestolenidentity
