Bright Floral Quilt/ Duvet?
Comments (9)Musta been my night! I stopped at TJ Maxx on my home from work just to see if they may have something that would work and they did! I put a quilt & 2 shams on layaway in a modernish watercolor like paisley & floral print in fresh green, blue, coral, pink and orange as well as a magazine tote very similar to the folder leaning against the window in the pic. I'm going to dig out my black piano stool and see if painting it kelly green is an option and use it as a little side table. Looking at SW Dovetail SW 7018 for walls & Natural 7542 for trim....See MoreDuvet question?? Bed layers??
Comments (7)During the winter we have a heavy duvet and heavy duvet cover -- along with the usual sheets. Plus a satin comforter (I collect these old beauties) Then in summer heat (we live near Dallas) I remove the duvet (and its cover) and replace it with a light summer-weight comforter (Ralph Lauren' Sussex Gardens pattern) and a lightweight satin comforter is folded at the end of the bed. There is also a matching matelasse cover that can be used on really sticky nights too. We do have various duvet covers that I can use over the comforter for a different look too. The bed is always dressed with a mattress cover -- then the bottom sheet -- then the top sheet. In very cold weather we use a mattress warmer under the mattress cover (which is removed when the bedding is switched around in the spring) Oh! and at least one or two of the cats usually camp out with us each night too!...See MoreIvory or white sheets with this PB duvet and quilt?
Comments (12)fnmroberts - beautiful bedroom! Yes, my bed looks almost exactly like yours. I'm looking for sheets elsewhere since the ivory PB everyday sheet that I bought is too dark. Their ivory in the next sheet set up is lighter but says only fits mattresses up to 16". I need 18" minimum for my pillowtop. Tibbrix - thanks for the laundry whitening tip. I could use this to whiten up DD's sheets and bath towels. louislinus - I sometimes like a mix of ivory and white too, but wasn't sure if it would work so well with the porcelain blue thrown in the mix. I noticed DD"s towels and sheets seemed to get dingier than my ivory ones. If you're switching to ivory, I would recommend Costco's Charisma towels. They're a creamier ivory (remind me of French vanilla ice cream) but very pretty and soft and seem to lighten a bit over time. jjam - thanks so much for the link. I was thinking of checking RH since I have a rewards certificate to use. The color does look more like the creamy white I prefer, and they're Egyptian cotton with deep pockets! msrose - I do love my older light ivory sheets with the PB ivory, but I had to replace the fitted sheet and can't find one to match. The PB sheet I bought is so much darker. When I went linen shopping yesterday it seemed every ivory was so different. Some were more beige, others were more yellow. The RH link jjam posted looks promising though and I think RH sells boxspring covers too....See MoreMaking a duvet cover from a coverlet
Comments (4)Terra, yes I do wash my sheets and/or fabric before sewing. They usually do some (diagonal)shifting when laundered and you may have to trim them a little to square them up before sewing. That way, your cover won't twist on you after laundering the way new covers do. I agree it's hard to find separate sheets these days. They are either really cheap(quality)like the ones from "Wally World", or really expensive. Some fabric stores have extra wide fabrics(muslins, flannels), but are limited on colors. I try to find mid-range sheet sets and match fabric to the top sheet. It doesn't matter(to me)if there are seams on the top side of the cover. You could also buy two sets and use the top sheets for a reversible cover(best done during a big sale). If you sew small loops(from fabric or twill tape)on the corners of your comforter they hardly show, then you can sew ties to the inside corners of your cover to keep the comforter from shifting around. As far as making the cover, just think of it as a large pillow case sewn on three sides, with a hemmed edge on the open end. I usually make buttonholes along the opening, but sometimes when I'm rushed or tired, I'll sew fabric or tape ties(at least three pairs)to close the end(which I place at the foot of the bed). Good luck. I hope this helps....See MoreDLM2000-GW
