New Year's Eve is Bad News
Comments (12)Azzelea, My comment really wasn't directed so much at you, specifically. This is actually the comment that bothered me the most: "Maybe the gal has a 'problem' and has frequent accidents. Maybe that's why it's in hubby's name. She could have lost all she already had, and he don't want to lose any more." My husband and I carpool to work every day. He drives, we go to his office and he gets out and then I drive to my office. I pay $100 per month for parking (it's $175 per month to park near my husband's office). At the end of the day I drive to his office to get him, but he usually drives home. However, there are plenty of times when I go to an appointment during the workday, or run errands at lunch, etc., when I am alone in the car, so I am clearly driving my husband's car. If, Heaven forbid, I should get into an accident, I guess Leslie would think less of me because I'd be driving hubs' car, not my own. And Liz's comment confuses me, too. "All of our cars are registered in both of our names...as well as insurance...we just list me first on mine and him first on his...so we don't have to license 3 cars in the same month...mine gets licensed in August and his get licensed in April! (our birthday months)" Here in California, the month in which you have to pay the registration fee on your car has nothing to do with your birth month. It's an annual renewal based upon the month in which you first registered the vehicle. (And I still don't understand how putting her husband's name first on his vehicle's registration means that the fees are due in his birth month -- unless the state of Georgia ties the two events together...)...See MoreAlmost time to bury the money! Comments (6)Thank you. As I recall we had a record high of 80 last Sunday (1 January). Tonight and tomorrow night (6 and 7 /January) will get down to 24 and 26, then back up into the 60/70s after that. The ground is always workable. The lows are very short in duration. The day temps normally warm everything back up. This is a great time to garden. Weeds grow slow, and no mosquitoes. It is a gardeners paradise from oct to march. April, May and June starts to warm up. July, August and Sept are too hot and too many bugs. In the recent past, I tried a second tomato season in late fall. Looking back, it makes no sense to try to grow in July, Aug, Sept when it is so effortless now. Of course, I can't grow tomatoes now. I am thinking I will just grow extra tomatoes in the normal season and freeze the extra. The ones I froze from last summer did real good in Sauces. I don't have a lot of time to can/make sauce to freeze, but I can always make time to quarter tomatoes and throw them in a bag in the freezer. The sweet white turnips, hakerie (name is close to that), are one of the lesser cold hardy varieties. They are very tastee, especially roasted with the carrots. I have a small patch of them and few remain. I will cover them. Everything else is very hardy and remains uncovered: Kale, broccoli, collards, onions, carrots and Lettuce. I expect some Lettuce losses, as there are many varieties. I expect half to survive just fine. I watered real good yesterday getting ready for the cold snap....See MoreI buried the money on New Year's Eve and. . .
Comments (17)The lottery scratch winnings are still going strong. I got $28 yesterday off a $3 ticket. But not only that, I've had hubby's watch for sale for a while. The watch I liked best I got sized for me, but I'm selling another. As usual, I've had low-balls, but today I got an email inquiring about it. An older gentleman was interested and he came here. I met him downstairs, and we sat in his truck and had the nicest visit. It turns out he has the exact same watch but his is very worn, the bracelet is loosening and the face is all scratched. Ours is in mint condition. Because it was going to such a good home, and we commiserated with our sorrows (my recent loss and his of a son of a heart-attack at 47), I knocked some money off the price. He gave me the cash and then also the extra, and ask that I donate it; (the extra portion). I have it with the buried money and will certainly do that....See Moremarylmi
