For those of you with BM Linen White...
Comments (21)I have used Linen White on trim for many years and it has always worked with every wall color we have paired it with. I've never used it on the walls though. It is a creamy white that provides contrast but isn't too stark, and doesn't look yellow or peach when used on trim. When we used oil based paint it would turn yellow, but since using the acrylic the color remains true. It's a great color and gives us continuity throughout the house. A winner!...See MorePaint help! Comments (3)Well that's exactly the reason on why it's so hard to give general advice on colors Revere Pewter for example is a lovely color that is highly praised, yet in my place looked like wet cement or something. I bet so much depends on a particular house in a particular geographical location too. That's why I dislike when people from, say, Vancouver say what's "timeless" to everybody whether they're living in Vancouver too, or maybe Arizona, or Florida That's why also every trend here gets bashed so, IMHO..because people pick it up and go with it(homeowners or builders) regardless whether it works in the first place..then it's everywhere whether it makes sense there or not much..then of course there's over-saturation of sorts, and folks start hating it. When nobody frankly put the gun to their head in the first place making them go with X or install Y. well I guess when it's put everywhere then it's not like you have big big choice either and at some point builders start putting whatever the trend everywhere, sometimes tastefully, sometimes ..lets say not so much That was off topic of course, for which I apologize:) As for the paints..might be a matter of many things. Say all mine are Dunn Edwards..and I had no idea such company exists at all, they don't have stores on the East Coast. Then when we remodeled the GC highly preferred for us to go with Dunn Edwards since he had an account with them, and they're very popular here. I could insist on other paint but would cost more..Dunn Edwards is considered pretty good..so ok, had to study Dunn Edwards. When I frankly would go with Benjamin Moore just because I know their colors a tad better. with Dunn Edwards had no idea where to start even the amount of samples I had to go through..can't decide whether it's funny or awfully funny lol (my white to go for trim is Swiss Coffee..luckily Behr has it, Dunn Edwards has it, I think Benjamin Moore has it..and they're pretty much Swiss Coffee all of them, so at least that..)...See MoreSuper White or Swiss Coffee for kitchen cabinets?
Comments (14)How much Chroma? = Its degree of colourulness is measured on a ratio scale. How much colour does it have, between an achromatic (truly neutral) white of the same Value (lightness) + a fully chromatic colour of the same value. Super White is very low in colourfulness. It has 0.21 Chroma. It’s so low, it will even pair with lots of other off-whites, which are more colourful. (higher Chroma) When pairing whites + off-whites you are looking for a minimum difference in hroma between them of at least 0.2. That way neither will look dingy or dirty next to the other. Used on the trim also it means you aren’t as limited with wall options down the line - it’s that neutral. Should you ever fancy a lighter, more neutral wall colour, Swiss Coffee on the trim could end up being darker and more colourful than the walls. Again this may limit your choices. Not wrong. Nor bad. But something you should know before choosing one over the other. Swiss Coffee is almost 3 x more colourful than Super White. It will limit your choices of worktop, being so noticeably colourful. especially if you haven‘t chosen the worktop first, rather than the paint to go with the selected worktop....See Morewhite cabinets for Swiss coffee kitchen wall
Comments (9)^Good advice from Amy. FWIW, I remember some advice from Lori Sawaya here regarding pairing whites. She said whites can be used together as long as there's at least a .20 difference in their Chroma. Ben Moore Swiss Coffee has a Chroma of .62. Simply White's is .50 and Super White's is 21. ETA - I found the quote from her... "I have a rule of thumb. It goes like this. As long as two colors of white have a difference of at least 0.20 in Chroma, neither will make the other look dirty or dingy. AND as long as you think the two colors go together, look pretty next to each other then you have yourself a white color scheme that works."...See Moresas95
