Help picking curtains
Hi everyone,
I've attached a picture of the master bedroom in my new house. None of the furniture or decorations are staying. I have pretty much decided to paint the walls BM Indian River, as someone here suggested. The new bed will be low to the floor with a large square white leather headboard and white leather around the base.
I'm looking for some curtains mainly for privacy at night and to block out the early morning sun. Otherwise, the curtains will always be open. I'm considering motorized curtains that would cover the large window and curve around to cover the smaller window hidden by the bedroom door in this picture. I figure when open, the curtains could bunch up to the left of the sliding glass door. I'm not a huge fan of blinds or sheers. This and one other room will be the only rooms with curtains; the rest of the house will be left uncovered, so I don't want some blinded windows and some blank windows when looking in from the outside.
Anyone have some suggestions on curtains that might fit in? I am drawn to simple curtains, nothing ornate or flowery.

9 years agoGood questions. No, I am not keeping the rug or anything in that room. My taste in art leans toward the abstract. I've attached a pic of some pieces I own, and have a house full of others. But suggestions for new art are always welcome...haha. Also attached is a pic of the bed.

Comments (4)Here's my thinking on curtains. You do have to kind of narrow down the search a bit to what style you are looking for to accent your room, provide any privacy or light management you want, and work with your room and furniture. In that regard, I think your idea to do panels on rings sounds very good in that pretty space. Next, you need to decide about fabric. Will a silk or satin-look panel be "user-friendly" in a patio slider application that (presumably) gets high traffic/lots of use? Will it complement your existing style and furnishings? Again, I think you're right on track to say No, even though they are muy bonita. Something in linen, in washable fabric like a poly blend, something in a cotton or even a chenille, might be a better choice for that door area. Now, do you buy something ready-made or do you have it custom-made, or do you get after it yourself? Options 2 and 3 give you the most flexibility in style and fabric, but the price of custom and your sewing ability can absolutely kill either option. So, are you doing ready-made or one of the other two choices? Now.......if you want to have them done or make them, then, the world is your oyster. JoAnns fabrics has some great decorator choices right now in fabrics. In fact, I bought this nice tone on tone textured chenille for my own drapery project in the fall. But, if you are going to be out hitting the sidewalks looking for panels, may I suggest that you do a bunch of looking, maybe even bringing home some possibles that appeal to you and look like they will work in your room. Take your paint chip with you to Bed Bath & Beyond, Linens N' Things, JCPenney, Tuesday Morning, etc., so you don't have to imagine the color. Make sure you know exactly what length you need. Comments (5)Stay away from trying to match colors, it usually doesn’t work. Pick a completely different color and as you said pull accent color from that in a rug in front of the sink, towels etc. I just repainted both of our bathrooms and a tip I learned on an online site said to paint the ceiling the same color as walls. It will make a smaller room look larger because your eyes are not stopping at where the walls meet the ceiling. PRO9 years agoAtomicJay, I would recommend you get a price on both options, the Luminettes & the drapery. Let the sales person provide the pros and cons of each for your particular situation.
I would also recommend a simply fabric that might appear to look like linen but be woven of polyester. These replicas are getting quite good and the advantage is that they will not easily fade from sun exposure like natural fabrics and will not shrink when if they require cleaning.
BTW you can avoid cleaning provided you don't smoke and vacuum the drapes from time to time to remove surface dust.
Too difficult to tell colors on a monitor, but I would either consider a few shades lighter than your wall paint or a few shades darker. The darker contrast might be nicely dramatic for the room.
