How hard is it to retrofit drawers into existing cab box?
Comments (18)northcarolina, Before I priced the design out with Scherr's I used Ikea's 3D design tool to make an as-close-as-possible version of the layout using the stock Ikea cabinets in the program (mostly as a baseline or benchmark for price) using the closest matching door style. I think the Ikea version of the entire kitchen would have been about $10200. The final result from Scherr's which included an upgrade to plywood cabinet boxes, matching veneered ends on exposed ends, custom sizes to maximize the space usage, a more expensive wood (QS-Oak) and dovetailed hardwood drawer boxes rather than Ikea's metal drawers, was about $17800. In fact I found the final price quote from Scherr's, it is as follows: List Price Of Cabinets & Misc. Items $12159.53 Discount On Cabinets - 25% -3039.88 Doors & Drawer Fronts 4173.80 Discount On Doors & Drawer Fronts - 25% -1043.45 Drawer Boxes & Roll-Out Trays 1878.64 Discount On Drawer Boxes - 25% -469.66 Hinges 646.86 Drawer Tracks 737.36 Drawing Deposit -350.00 Stain + Finish Doors, Drawer Fronts, Cabinet Parts 2600.00 Sample Door Credit -25.00 TOTAL $17,268.20* *Plus Shipping & Applicable Sales Tax (No Sales Tax On This Order) Estimated Completion Date: February 2007 FREIGHT: Will Ship Freight Prepaid, Estimated Cost of $866.07 @ 4100 lbs. Comments (27)Here is a kitchen which I am showing you because of how well the colors work together. Your cabinets are a different style but similar color. The green / gray - I think it is Dry Sage by Benjamin More - and the white bring out the best in the cabinets. The countertop is Tunis Green Granite. Other countertops would also work. My countertop is LG White Pearl (also sold at Menards as Flaked Pearl). Many of the Menard's stores have a large display of this countertop which is helpful because the 4" x 4" sample is not a good indicator of the total look. Here is more of a close up. It does have a busy pattern: I happen to really like vintage / french country style and my cabinets lean that direction already - so the farmhouse sink and counters added to the style that was already possible. With you thoughts on such high end modern look as a waterfall countertop, you are working against the feel of your cabinets. They have the arched door, which is country / French country and soffits - both aspects lean more cottage and less modern /contemporary. You could paint them, but the feel would still not be high end modern. You can have a very pretty refreshed kitchen with the right colors and new counters and backsplash. But, it still might not be your vision. Look at lots of kitchens online and see what you like. Be careful not to be unduly influenced by marketing which wants to make you dislike your present surfaces. The gray / white trend is big now, but something new will come along in a few years and all who have transformed their kitchen /homes to gray and white will no longer be "on trend" - that is OK if they love the look and feel of their home - then trends do not matter. However, if the style was done because it was fashionable, then the marketers will be able to again make it felt that changes need to be made....See MoreNew Construction- Retrofit Farmhouse Sink?
Comments (14)Joseph will give you details:) Just wanted to say I love my short apron Whitehaven. Kohler makes this sink in two apron styles - "short apron" and "tall apron". If you have a standard sink base cabinet, you need to order the "short apron" style - I think that has been said and the order numbers given, but I just wanted to make it clear. Sometimes when ordering it is in the small print on whether it is a short or tall apron - so be sure you order the correct sink. The sink is easy to install because it has a self facing apron and the cabinet does not need to be exactly scribed to the sink as in a traditional farm sink....See MoreHas anyone retrofitted a LeMans blind corner pullout in IKEA cabinet?
Comments (16)It's not attached to the door, and it swings, then pulls out. Of course Ikea doesn't actually say that, because it would be helpful, and they can't have their website encouraging people to buy things. Here's a Video, it's installation, but I have it set to once he's pulling it out. (Not the best install video, either- there is a hole so that it's on the bottom of the cabinet, he apparently just didn't see it, per another install video)....See Morecharon70
