Retrofit existing cabinets or buy new ones...HELP!!!!
Comments (22)Texasgal47....Great suggestions. Thanks for the website to the company. I can't wait to get that done. I'll need to save up a few pennies as my budget is maxed out right now. My KD at home depot isn't very experienced and is wondering how to design the cabinet for my subzero fridge. I have 45.5 inches of space available and the fridge only requires a 35.5 inch opening. She said she had to call someone to figure out what to do with the remaining 10 inches. I am a little nervous about this. Does anyone have any ideas?...See MoreHow much dust is there when new cabinets/counters are installed?
Comments (10)Do. Not. Do. It. !!!! The dust was endless. Even upstairs closets with plastic over doors after the major demolition was complete had new dust. The ceiling had to be re sanded because lights didn't line up and then again for work around range hood. The dust in the final days as well as cabinet install was just absurd. I wish we were much more vigilant in covering things up until all workers were out of the house....See Morehow do I choose wood tones for floors, kitchen cabinets and finite or?
Comments (5)Your question is the thing we struggled with the most when picking things for our house. I wanted wood grain cabinets but felt like having a different color wood floor would be ideal to stay away from what we perceived as the "log cabin" look. We decided on a natural hickory color for the floor and medium brown for the cabinets with white quartz counter tops. It looks right in my head but my wife and I are both still anxious to see what it will actually look like. Everyone else has said to hire a pro. Our builders have a interior designer that goes over the selections with each buyer. The trouble is our "style" didn't match hers. We are confident enough in our choices but we would have never hired out that work to another designer. From a cost side but also I don't feel confident enough that they would be able to help me get the look I was after more than I was anyway. I don't know if that makes sense at all but there was a lot of doubt and second guessing. There still is. I think you just have to think about it long and hard try to be sure of yourself. In the end, styles will change and you'll repaint and change carpet and whatnot. Good luck....See MoreHow do I add my farmhouse love to this existing look?
Comments (11)You can get more of your look but it will be easier if you embrace your love of blue and white and think less of gray:) On the plus side, newer design pics show lots of white, warm woods and less gray. I admit my least favorite thing about the kitchen is the paneled fridge followed closely by the over the range microwave which I could not even reach:) Actually, The first thing I would do is nothing since this is a new to you home. Then you can assess what really is bothering you, and your husband may relent on some changes, and you may have a better idea of a budget. In my own kitchen I did change the counters, subway tile backsplash and short apron Kohler Whitehaven farm sink. It is more vintage / cottage then farmhouse: https://www.houzz.com/hznb/photos/my-pics-work-in-progress-phvw-vp~110720042 https://www.houzz.com/hznb/photos/my-pics-work-in-progress-phvw-vp~109854029 If I had your kitchen some things I would think about: Compromise with the husband - Keep wood cabinets and get new counter - maybe you will need to save up and do it in a year or so, but it is a pretty, functional kitchen so waiting is not a problem. If I had lots of storage, I might want to remove some of the cabinets on the window wall and put in a larger window or replace the cabinet to the right of the sink with shelves or a plate rail cabinet. I admit mine is more for decor then use - but I love the look. A carpenter can rework that cabinet into a plate rail cabinet. That is not cheap but if I could do that in my kitchen I would, but it is too small. I would look into whether or not ordinary doors are available for the fridge. I would replace the OTR Microwave with a vented hood. I would put up a pretty roman shade. Here is my wood kitchens idea book. Maybe something will inspire. Some are new, others are older, refreshed kitchens: https://www.houzz.com/ideabooks/75202366/list/wood-kitchens...See Morelabdunbar_denver
