Replacing flooring before the kitchen remodel - bad idea?

Has anyone put down hardwood flooring months or years before going through with a kitchen remodel? If so, do you regret it / wish you would have waited until you did the kitchen remodel?

We are moving to a new house and I would like to install hardwoods on the first floor before we move in. If we do any remodeling in the kitchen it will be mostly cosmetic. The only possible cabinetry change would be making the angled island into a larger rectangular footprint. However, we won't do anything like that for at least 6 months to a year. I don't see how that change would impact the flooring negatively - if anything the new island would simply cover up more of the floor space than it does today.

Thoughts?
