What did YOU get for Christmas?
Comments (12)Annie....ooooh, I love your quilt. Those browns and pinks look good enough to eat with a spoon. I made one quilt of just brown repro colors, and it's the only one I've ever named. I called it "the boys in butternut" for the boys from the south that dyed so many of their uniforms with butternuts. At the time I was just reading a book on quilt made in the era of the War between the States...in it they said there were few documented southern quilts of that era...for several reasons, not the least of which was the shortage of cotton fabric due to the cotton embargo ..... but another reason given was that it was believed many southern soldiers were buried with their quilts as shrouds - it struck me as so sad, to be buried wrapped in a quilt lovingly made by a mother or wife -thus the named quilt.... what a terrible war that was! I have a lot of brown fabrics left from that quilt, and will combine it with the pinks and new browns I got for Christmas. I haven't decided on a pattern yet, but it must lend itself to many different fabrics, and I want a pattern used in the 1860-1880s....and, one not too tough, as I make and quilt mine all by hand, but tend to belong to the 'close enough' school! By the way, your points are gorgeous! the top, unquilted.... the '0ld' brown fabrics.....most of those I got for Christmas were the double pinks or brown and pink together...See MoreWhat quilty things did you get for Christmas?
Comments (10)My brother got me a set of Amish quilt greeting cards that are blank inside, but have pictures of quilts on the outside. My mom got me a Quilt-In-A-Day's wooden iron for pressing out quilt block seams at my desk, she also got me plastic template sheets to make quilt patterns with, and 3 Elm Creek Quilts novels. My sister got me Elm Creek Quilts Sylvia's Bridal Sampler quilt book and a lot of WOW fabric for the background fabric for the quilt blocks. My son and DH got me some fabric and some fabric pens and a 6.5" x 24" quilt ruler. So I am all set to have some fun quilting in 2014. Comments (61)My very favorite gift was from a friend who can cook quite well, that went to the trouble of sending it to me via post. In nice containers too. My son and I would try one each night. Maybe even two. Or three. It was nice to enjoy! List? Not really. My work gave me a turkey (already eaten), my boss gave me a check, my workmates gave me some really cool pop them in the microwave booties that can warm my toes, mom gave me a check, nephew gave me cash, and my sister gave me shiny baubles. I did buy myself an incredibly cheap tablet. So cheap, it is a 10 inch screen, but it came with a keyboard case and stylus, all for $100. I'm not kidding. That's how cheap it is. I have figured out, I only use the tablet for games and magazine reading. I rarely even surf the internet with it even. I'm just glad anyone thought of me at all....See MoreWhat quilty items did you get for Christmas?
Comments (8)My daughter got me some Wonder Clips (which I already have) and a box of Marilee's Numbered Pins. I love the pins. They are eight pins each with numbers 1 through 24 in a cool little box with dividers that keep every group of numbers separate. So great for keeping blocks and rows in order. I have some that I numbered myself, but they are pretty sad looking, so I'm delighted to get these. They are coming to Hawaii with me in my stowed luggage. I don't want to risk having them taken away from me....See Moresas95
