What garden gifts did you get for Christmas?
Comments (7)Hey there- Happy Birthday Peggy!! 51 is a pretty big birthday! Congratulations! Um- I did not get any garden related gifts this year from family- although I have been involved with a few exchanges and so I guess have given myself the gift of seeds and gardener friendships! Zen Potter/Pauline will be hosting this years "Great MN Winter Blues Seed Swap" at her house on the 10th- It is a fun time to "garden" in winter by sharing seeds and other goodies. It will still be close enough to the holidays- so I guess you could give your self the garden gift you did not get- by coming and swappin' seeds and stories- and food too! If you are free on the 10th- come on over! You are sure to leave with a few new treasures! Julie...See MoreWhat is your one 'go to' Christmas item you use year after year
Comments (7)Wow! Great bargains! Red plates would be a good addition! My one "go-to" item that I use for Christmas is the Holy Family I made in ceramics class back in the mid-70's. It was greenware that I cleaned & painted & then the teacher fired it in a kiln. I love it because it was made after the birth of our own son. Here's a close-up view of it a couple yrs ago: And then here it is this yr (evening photo) on top of china cabinet: Thanks, swest, for starting this thread! & for sharing! Comments (10)My brother got me a set of Amish quilt greeting cards that are blank inside, but have pictures of quilts on the outside. My mom got me a Quilt-In-A-Day's wooden iron for pressing out quilt block seams at my desk, she also got me plastic template sheets to make quilt patterns with, and 3 Elm Creek Quilts novels. My sister got me Elm Creek Quilts Sylvia's Bridal Sampler quilt book and a lot of WOW fabric for the background fabric for the quilt blocks. My son and DH got me some fabric and some fabric pens and a 6.5" x 24" quilt ruler. So I am all set to have some fun quilting in 2014. Best to you and Happy New Year, Sandra This post was edited by quiltingfox on Fri, Dec 27, 13 at 20:40...See MoreHow was YOUR Christmas - what did you get - did you have fun?
Comments (1)I had a very quiet Christmas, and just as well because it was a stinking hot day (35C at 7am!) and there was no energy to breathe, much less anything else. My son and his lady came for breakfast, the first of many visits they had scheduled for the day. This was just fine by me. I got them when they were full of Christmas spirit, bright-eyed and bushy-tailed, and by the time they left their appetites were ruined for everyone else's food! The best part of the breakfast was that THEY did all the cooking - I just 'supervised' and provided the food. We had a lot of fun and laughter together exchanging our little gifts, and when they left, I was able to recuperate by sleeping most of the day in front of the fan, or beginning to read one of the several books they gave me (from a list I'd prepared of Must Haves). My sleep was, however, disturbed by a number of phone calls from interstate friends, all very welcome. And in the evening a friend visited, ostensibly to watch Dancesport on TV with me (we are both into ballroom dancing), but mostly to escape her rowdy family at home after a mountain of a day. (She often uses my place as a refuge when things get A Bit Much.) In between these interuptions, I had the opportunity of watching all those silly little Christmas shows on TV. You know, Frosty the Snowman, The Little Drummer Boy and so on. I have a sneaking liking for these little things - maybe I'm in my second childhood! All very pleasant indeed, thank you....See Morepolardream
