Coffee Plant Waste
Comments (17)kimmsr, here is a quote from the article; "Caffeine has been mentioned as a potent allelopatheic compound, inhibiting selectively weed growth under coffee trees as well as being toxic to coffee roots. It is clear from laboratory studies that caffeine can cause inhibition of seed germination in different species..." (Emphasis is mine.) What part of this is confusing to you? Too much caffeine is not only hard on other plants, it's hard on the coffee tree, too. What's chapping my ass right now are the self-appointed net.cops who are to lazy to check up on facts that they personally don't agree to. As Patrick Moynihan famously said, "you are entitled to your own opinions, but you are not entitled to your own facts". Fact; caffeine, like unfinished compost, inhibits seed germination and root growth....See MoreRECIPE: Dairy-Free...Flavored Coffees

Comments (25)So it seems that the biggest problem everyone has is that my pantry is too far away from the sink, stove, fridge and island? Originally I had envisioned the pantry being my main backup pantry. Then I sort of realized that even though this kitchen is a little larger, the extra appliances/sizes were eating up some of that. The only space I kept food in my last kitchen was a wall height 15/18 inch wide pantry cabinet. Most of the time, I actually went downstairs to get another can of green beans or whatever. Maybe if I deepened the kitchen enough to get one or two slide out pantries next to the fridge? Maybe it is just because I'm a little shy of 40, but honestly the distance from the pantry to the island is pretty short. In my teeny kitchen now, I spend most my time searching for stuff that wasn't put away properly or is now unorganized (love the help of family unloading the dishwasher!). The 15 seconds it takes me to walk to the pantry and back to the island seems pretty fantastic by comparison. When I started this post: http://ths.gardenweb.com/discussions/4840159/adjacent-pantry-what-food-do-you-keep-in-kitchen many people said they like keeping the majority of their food in their pantry. I really do get the concept of the triangle, but also am pretty realistic that I will have to go to my basement pantry once a week or so for missing items too. For example, I keep large bags of rice in the basement (they take up a lot of room and it is cooler). I may devote extra space in the upstairs pantry for some of that, but am not storing 25 pounds of flour and several kinds of rice on the main floor. But my last pantry also literally had a minimum of 3 months worth of food should anything happen....another reason I prefer the idea of a gas stove! I do think if I had even one narrow pull out pantry, I could fit most of the commonly used ingredients in that. Some stuff, like green beans are kept in the fridge/freezer anyway....See MoreThoughts on this coffee table for in here?
Comments (17)Flo - Unfortunately that doesn't work in here. The room has two entrances and isn't large enough to float furniture. It doesn't help that my furniture is large. Room is 18'x15'. I think the photos make the room appear larger than it is. Old pics. [deleted] With the entertainment stand all together and on the main wall the loveseat goes on the wall to the right when you walk in and sticks out into the doorway if you float it up. (Looks really bad pushed against wall.) So I later flipped the end table direction and pushed the loveseat toward the sofa forming almost a weird sectional but it certainly wasn't ideal either. I kept it this way for a long time. Found a pic of that side of the room as it is now. (Mat on art changed to white.) . We have no play room. Also toys are kept in the box under wingchair. I think I've tried literally about every furniture arrangement. Then there's the idea of couch on main wall (it's the length of the e.stain), loveseat in front of window and tv where the loveseat is shown (only middle part of e.stand would fit or use console) on the above photos but then there's a large space in the middle of the room and everything is shoved against walls. If you moved the couch away from the main wall and added sofa table behind then you run into the issue of you can't use a chair to the right of the couch (left if you're facing main entrance of room) because it interferes with side entrance. I really want built ins across the whole main wall with a fp or even just the tv and built ins. When I was working on new ideas/plans there was talk of doing built ins/fp and tv going above console where wingchair is now and a sectional in front of the window replacing the sofa and loveseat, using sofa table behind. A few problems with that is I don't like sectionals and so far they seem to be too small or too large for the space. General note, this is also are only living room so all tv watching and relaxing happens here. I don't want to purchase new furniture until I have a concrete plan in place this time. I also need the storage so the e.stand stays until I get built ins. I agree the ottoman is too stark but I'd rather recover than use a throw over it. Here's where I added a blue through to get an idea of navy. I like the blue idea better than the cream but think this was too dark. Throw color compared to blue pillows....See MoreUser
