Anyone Know When 'Full Surface' Induction Is Coming?
Comments (50)p111og writes: "The three ball feet is exactly what Demeyere use for their induction wok, and what the Gaggenau wok ring does. I'm sure your pans work on the same principle. What kind of pans are they? I've never seen any like that except for the D wok. The excitation goes up the feet into the sides and spreads both directions from there, instead of all having to spread up from the bottom. The bottom of the bowl is close enough to heat on its own, as well." Our two pots with the three feet each are Nambutetsu (cast iron of a type made exclusively in the region near Morioka, Japan that formerly was ruled by the Nambu clan); ours were made by Iwachu. The feet are not ball-shaped, but are more or less triangular. The magnetic field of the induction cooktop interacts with the bowl-shaped pot directly; no significant portion of the magnetic field gets transmitted through the feet. I am sure that the pots would heat as evenly if the feet were made of wood or some other nonmagnetic material as they do with the cast iron feet. The link below shows a pot identical to one of the two pots to which I alluded. (We purchased ours in Japan, but the product is the same.) Nambutetsu -- from any of the many casters -- is, and has been for 400 years, the best cast iron cookware in the world. There are many small artisan casters of Nambutetsu (Iwachu, however, is more industrial in size), and several of the artisan makers are officially designated by the government of Japan as "living national treasures." Here is a link that might be useful: So-called tempura pot from Iwachu...See MoreBuy a house where there was a murder?
Comments (31)N.O. I would think about the murder and gore every day. There's a house near me where there was a murder-suicide many years ago. The house has been totally remodeled so it looks nothing like the original house. I still think of that event every time I drive by. Brrr. Silly as it sounds, I did not even like to think about the previous owners of my house having their bare bottoms in the tub. Yes, I know that is crazy. So glad I finally remodeled and got rid of that tub. Now, if the house were a beauty on a large lot with a private beach and an ocean view for $50K, I might have to reconsider (and replace the bathtubs). I watched The Exorcist by myself. I had to put a knit blanket over my head and watch from between the stitches. Another movie about haunted houses that totally creeps me out is Poltergeist. I'd happily live next to a cemetery, but not on top of the graves....See MoreWhere to build spice rack into new kitchen design
Comments (36)I love my pull outs on either side of my cooktop. I keep seasonings for cooking on the right one and all my baking spices on the left. The baking zone is to the left of the cooking and it is very handy. There are deep drawers to the left of my baking spices. One holds my canisters of flour and sugar along with my big food processor and many measuring cups. The one under that holds mixing bowls, rolling pins and all my other misc. gadgets. My big KA sits on the counter in the corner, always ready for action. The pullouts were made by my cabinet maker. They are adjustable, full extension, soft close and like the insides of all my cabinets are lined with easy to clean melamine. About the third or fourth time I used this set up, I had one of those pure, joyful moments, realizing how much easier and faster it was to make something. It's fun not work any more. Comments (18)I know, I don't think either of the CafePress designs are as nice as your old ones. I still think something similar must be out there, somewhere... I think the Mimbres collection at the Western NM University in Silver City is the largest one in existence. On our last visit, they told us they rotate different pieces through the display routinely (too many items to display all at once.) It's just fabulous, so if you get back out this way, maybe pencil that in! I had to get comfy with bats in my last home, because they lived in the attic of our old detached rock garage. That building also housed our washer and dryer. I will admit there were a few evenings I did a U-turn with the laundry basket, when I saw a bat flitting around the light bulb over the washer. I don't mind them, but don't really want them flying around my head! But they never gave me any trouble. Interesting little critters....See More- 11 years ago
