Kitchen design help for new build
Comments (46)I didn't read all the above carefully, but you've been given some good ideas. I don't think this layout has been proposed yet. My suggestion to move the island over was to make sure that the aisle was wide enough for step-back room when someone is rummaging in the fridge. This gives a little less overlap between the island and fridges. If you posted the width of the aisle I missed it, but it should be at least 42". BTW, the round prep sink I posted in the first plan was a place holder, which I should have taken the time to note. My Paint program does not do diagonal boxes, so I drew a circle. If you are still considering that option, I'd suggest using a corner prep sink like buehl's, and if the front of the cabinet is not wide enough for plumbing access, consider leaving a hatch in the pantry wall....See MoreNew build kitchen design
Comments (37)"would you consider moving the DW to the end to make a larger drawer cabinet to the left of the cleanup sink?" I have a Lemans to the left of the sink. I prefer those or susans to store small appliances and awkward/tall items to drawers. This is not a large kitchen which IMO means tailored storage instead of "all drawers" for maximum efficiency and convenience. There's a few options I'd be considering after talking with a client but as many know I don't play layout on here, leave that to you folks. a prep sink with plumbing routed to one corner with tray dividers but then you lose the 4DB by the fridge. I'd only do that if it were a brand where I could incorporate the drawers in the shallow pantry and still have it open on two sides. I kind of like that idea. making the Lemans larger and move DW over, (middle size used suits the kitchen though) moving the PO trash from the corner of the range leg to between the lemans and sink, moves the sink down and put a base with tray dividers and a RO where the trash is now (kinda small for that though) moving the fridge further over and giving up the pantry- more counter but no pantry. of course some of you would want all drawers :) Likely some other choices to consider. IRL a client would be presented with 3 or 4 options to start with (and I'd be showing the living room furniture since it matters here) and we'd discuss the pros and cons then adjust. I always depends on the client and what brand fits them and the budget hence what I can do....See MoreNew Build - Kitchen Design Input Please
Comments (10)I think you want specific answers to your questions, so: Combining questions 3 and 5, I'd have the coffee maker next to the fridge, because I take milk in my morning coffee. For the rest of that countertop, cookie jars. Filled with cookies. It's kind of useless for the kitchen, actually, so I'd use the space next to the refrigerator for dish storage, and the rest for special servers and the far end for a bar. Question 4: That's where I'd have a small bar sink, not a prep sink. But then, I've never had a prep sink so I can't speak to their need or placement. Question 6: For that perimeter space between the pantry and the pool door, I'd probably have patioware, the melamine trays and cute napkins and iced tea glasses and beer bottle openers that you carry out to the pool, and for placemats, napkins, and candles for the dining table. Question 2: looks like a lot of kitchens, but the placement is poor, being a pass-through. But I'm looking at it from the "I'm moving into this house that someone else built, where does my stuff go?", since HOW I use a kitchen wasn't taken into consideration. I've done enough moving into existing homes and having to change how I do things. If I were building my own home, I'd build it around how *I* do things, not how a drafter, or even the neighbors, do things....See MoreNew Build Kitchen Design Colour choices: Dark Blue Farmhouse Kitchen
Comments (75)If I had a dollar for every time I heard "I've never seen that done before" and "everyone else does/has...." I agree with cpartist. Having the hood, shelves and counter stools wood will be a good balance, along with a light floor, backsplash and walls. Between the kitchen and laundry room/back hallway in our last house, I had a floor to ceiling black hutch. No windows, only light from laundry room window (kitchen was in center of house), and the black hutch was not a hole of doom and gloom when the hallway light was off. One thing to consider is taking aways one wall cabinet on each side of the range hood to visually open up and lighten that area just a bit. What is happening elsewhere in the kitchen area, like around the corner of the far right wall? I currently have black soapstone counters on the F&B Blue Gray cabinets (walls painted the same color) with a counter to ceiling scalloped soapstone backsplash behind the range. It's countered with light French oak wood floors and light ceiling. Taking chances can pay off if executed well, but you will have to listen to a few naysayers along the way....See Morelascatx
