modem switch, ethernets, and extension cables

Hi, I'm hoping someone can steer me in the right direction. I finally sorta got thru the hurdle of Magic Jack registration & activation. I was assigned a Magic Jack temp. phone number but can't get to first base due to not having a router (rather a Comtrend modem that was programmed by DSL provider to be a router).

The Comtrend has only one Ethernet port, which is why I can't conveniently try out Magic Jack.

My question is:
Where's the best, affordable online one-stop shop to get a switch (and what's a decent brand & price for same?)
...and in addition to the switch - also several ethernet cables, and good-quality short extension cables to plug into my Tripplite surge-strip...
...or if there's any type of short cable which can convert each TrippLite outlet into several, would that be preferable?

My TrippLite only has 6 outlets, and I have only:
(A) The 2-outlet wall-outlet
(B) plus the 6-outlet Tripplite surge-strip plugged into one of the above outlets.

What I'll need to plug in:
(1) The printer cable
(2) laptop cable
(3) boxy Comtrend-modemRouter adapter
(4) Huge-chunky Creative speaker adapter
(5) Switch adapter
(6) Magic Jack (which the MJ girl claimed needs plugging direct into wall outlet.

Some possible options:

But as stated previously, I'm not sure if the Magic Jack is advisable in any but a direct wall outlet?
