Does this shower look weird?

Please ignore the green board, the plumbing, the floor, etc. All of these issues have been addressed. My concern is the extra 2x4 support built to hold the shower door. The glass guy recommended my guys add extra support to that wall but I think the bump out looks weird. Please let me know.

Weird or not, you have to have that support. To bad they didn't put it in the wall instead. But I am not a builder, I just know that the glass will be HEAVY and you need big wood to mount the big screws they use on the hinges to mount the HEAVY door.

How are you treating the surface outside the shower?

I think the bump should be wider so that it matches the width of the half wall .

I know this is an old thread but I'm coming across the same situation as ebse...the KD is claiming that's how it should look but she can order me the panel (I'd have to wait weeks to get it) if I "prefer the look" of the panel. I'm kinda offended that she wants me to pay for the panel when I'm the one being inconvenienced by having to wait weeks for the panel to come in when she should've known that it would look goofy without the panel. (Hasn't she worked with farm sinks before?) ebse - if you're still on the forum, did you pay for your panel? anyone - am I unreasonable to expect the KD to pick up the $85 tab for the panel since it really is their mistake and I'm being inconvenienced here? I was hoping to finish the kitchen soon but now have to wait a few weeks longer b/c of this!

Jan M I get the point about the balancing and totally agree that the shelving is too much. Not so sure about the "look" comment though, I definitely have a certain design aesthetic that I'm going for with the farmhouse sink and the shelves and fridge and all, I think it's really going to pull together when it's finished and look really nice. The fridge is not small, it is narrow yes, but it's 75" tall so it is actually taller than a Bosch stainless fridge (which is what my other appliances are). If I ever need to replace the fridge, I can replace it with the 24" wide Bosch one and build it in more. I am definitely going to take you guys' advice about the glass cabinets along the fridge wall though. This is what I sent the designer this morning So it should look kind of like this layout-wise (stove wall/pantry/fridge), except the fridge will be surrounded by glass-front cabinets down that whole wall.

I think it looks great either way it's hung. I have a large Navajo rug hung at the top of my stairway landing. My dad built a wooden "frame" of sorts that it attaches to with Velcro. This helps the rug to project slightly from the wall, and also provides a damage-free way to display it. (Of course, I also have a couple of Navajo rugs that are hung with nails -- not the best way, but I got lazy!)

Glad you have moved on. I agree with kelli. Something similar happened to us with wall tiles. And, we are experienced and tried to be on top of it, We probably blinked for a second. Two squiggly tiles are near each other. I actually now laugh when I look at it. Things happen, no matter how diligent. In a perfect world, yes the installer should have noticed.

There is no reason for the bump out other than contractor convenience. You can have them tear it out and mount it flush in the wall, but be prepared to pay.

A couple hundred bucks will come and go, but you'll be staring at that for a very long time. I'd make it look the way I wanted, although it doesn't look odd to me.

If the surround will be tile, it will be one more annoying corner to clean.

Sorry, but a lot about that shower looks ''wierd''. Not just tbe glommed on door support and freaking greenboard! What is the experience level of the contractor that you are working with? Is this his first bathroom? The gaps in the cement board on the floor and lack of thinset under it means your tile may crack. The lack of slope under the piece of Kerdi means that you'll have water issues in your shower floor. And there is a lot more. Hope you can get it all fixed correctly.

Obviously a Kerdi treatment for the floor....but NOT covering the curb, NOT going up the wall....and certainly NOT a Schluter drain. How in the world are you attaching it without the Schluter assembly/Flange?

Truthfully, this looks like a recipe for disaster.

The OP obviously doesn't care that it turns to mush within months. There have been many posts here trying to educate her on what needs to be done for a properly constructed bath. The only questions she has or will respond to are about decorative choices.

Cut the OP a break. These issues were addressed on another thread, which is why the OP wrote "Please ignore..." in the opening sentence.

The purpose of these forums should simply be to offer advice to people. If people don't accept your advice, there's no need to be offended. Or to act offended.
