Facebook was down the other day .. they had problems. Perhaps they changed their IP address.

Most windows computers you can clear your DNS lookup records from the command prompt (admin) with this command;
ipconfig /flushdns

Sometimes you might need to clear the DNS in your modem/router. You can try to login to it to find that setting, if you cant find it maybe unplug it for about 5 minutes.

If you can go to other websites.. that's about the only reason you shouldn't be able to visit facebook unless you have enabled parental controls and blocked it somewhere. Or youre typing in the address wrong... or facebook had banned you for some reason.

I ask because I have no idea if the webpage won't come up or you get redirected or Facebook won't accept your credentials.

Please be as clear and concise as possible and include your computer operating system (Windows 7? Windows 8, Mac OSX?)
What browser do you use to access webpages?

I am in the same boat, the page comes up,but it is really funky all down the left side. can't understand most of it. i had my computor sent back to the day i bought it due to spyware. Favorites were lost. this is the only one i have found will not come up. Windows 8 and Explorer 10 are the two I am running. also will not come up in Firefox...

OP, there's never a need to delete bookmarks. Do you mean, you cleared out the cache, temp files, and cookies of your browser? That's different and always a good idea to do.

Oh my, no. That's like suggesting that the reason someone can't reach the Fire Department for an emergency call is that it has an unlisted number.

Reboot PC, reboot router/modem. Done. BUT, that's very unlikely to have been the problem, absent some hiccup having happened.

How are you trying to reach facebook ?

Facebook's IP is 173.252.120.6

In your browser, up at the top, when you type that IP in the location bar (were you usually see the http://xyz.com) and hit Enter, does it come up ?

Never say never. I can think of several reasons.
Usually it's better to ask why first.

OK kbarb, I always like to learn new things. Other than a bookmark file suspected of being corrupted, what situations would suggest deleting all as a corrective step? thanks in advance.

You got the best one, and one reason why not to say "never".
But the OPs question is, how to get on Facebook, not about the whys & wherefores of deleting bookmarks.

Hmm, that's a new one - it's hard to imagine how that could happen, unless you had an absolutely enormous bookmark file, and very little memory.
You're probably on Internet Explorer though, right ?
It sounds more like a website you're on causes the browser to stall.
Or perhaps, not enough memory.

So after you delete your bookmarks, it pops right back to life ?
Are you absolutely sure that's the only thing clearing the problem ?
Nothing has been done, except delete all bookmarks ?

Or, you're surfing away, the computer stalls, you delete your bkmarks, and restart the browser or computer ?

It would help to know exactly how and when it happens.
