Thanks for your reply. I get the "Sorry, something went wrong" error when clicking on your first link, above.

The first link, "Facebook Community", opens fine "here".

I still doubt clearing cache and cookies would help but I would think it's a troubleshooting step you should take, if only to eliminate that variable.

I still hope someone else has seen this problem and can be more helpful. I'm afraid I don't actively use Facebook and only very rarely log in.

Maybe the router needs a reset?

Richard, thanks so much for your help. I did clear cache and cookies on the 2 laptops (Mac and PC). And I'm actually away from home this weekend and still having the same problem. So ... different router.

I'm probably at the end of my very limited expertise, still hoping for someone else to chime in.

Out of curiosity, just in case there's some sort of DNS resolution problem (probably not for two weeks), does this URL load?

Strangely enough, when I attempt a DNS resolution for facebook.com, I get 31.13.77.6, which is an IP for facebook.com, but in Ireland.

I don't know if that's a clue or not. Maybe that's to be expected, maybe the help community really is hosted in Ireland, I don't know.

Strange. It's been a long time since I've used Facebook but I remember seeing that message a lot. If I remember correctly it always added something like "and we're working on it". I'd always think, "Yeah right, I just bet you are".

I have a feeling it will eventually clear up on its own, seemingly out of the blue. That's just a feeling though. I know it doesn't help.

Hopefully someone else has something you can try. I can't think of anything else myself, but there's so much I don't know.

Richard, do you have any problem w/Firefox? Since the 40.0 revision, mine crashes sooner or later. Been thru the mint forums & nothing helps. Have to use Opera which I don't like much. And, IIRC, we may have discussed this -- I changed to the ESR ver 38.2, but it doesn't matter -- still crashes after some arbitrary amount of time.

No. I'm on 41.0, no problems crashing.

I've used both Nightly and ESR, no problems with crashing with either.

I assume you've "Reset"?

Deleted your Firefox profile "~/.mozilla/firefox" and started fresh?

I honestly don't know, mine is stable as a rock, at least while doing the things I do, and using the extensions I use.

Maybe instead of mint forums, try mozilla forums?

Maybe turn off hardware acceleration(in advanced Firefox prefs) if it's on. That's just a wild guess though.

Very common facbook problem about the white page. A few friends are having this same problem and if you Google you see complaints about this. I think it's a facebook account problem and not your computer. It happens across multiple devices with the account. It's a very weird problem and I have yet to see a solution. I have nevr had this happen. Mary

Another weird thing is if I were to log into my account from your devices my account would work fine. That is what I heard people saying when I googled this to help friends a few weeks ago. Mary

Richard, yeah, I've done everything you mention & much more. No joy. And NOW Opera is crashing?!? Tho more gracefully than FF (Opera instantly comes back up). So I'm very discouraged w/Mint -- seems like a systematic error affecting browsers (Mint is completely up to date BTW). Might have to simply stick w/Puppy linux, which has never had a single problem.

OK! More information, which just might tell why I'm having the problem. I was in Canada a few weeks ago and Facebook worked (from my iPhone) then just fine. However, I realize now that it was when I got home that it no longer worked. Aha! A colleague has suggested that maybe logging in from a different ISP prompted my account to be locked.

I'll bet that's it! But .... does anyone know how I can fix it?
